Articles, quotes, and interesting information concerning the Thrillers over the years |
How did the Thrillers get their name?? |
Taken from the 1989-90 Official Program Book: When the CBA awarded the City of Tampa, Florida, a franchise in 1984, the team had no name. The Tampa Bay Suns was an early thought, but it didn't go over well since the CBA rules out any nickname already claimed - and the Phoenix Suns had dibs on "Suns." Then an article appeared in a Tampa newspaper about unusual nicknames of sports teams. The article suggested that singer Michael Jackson would name a team he owned the "Thrillers." The name stuck, and for good reason. It has universal appeal in terms of excitement. Thrillers basketball... Professional basketball at its best. |
