Rapid City is ready to support a new
pro basketball team!
History of Pro Basketball in Rapid City
Memories of the Thrillers
This website is dedicated to professional basketball in Rapid City, South Dakota.  The ultimate hope and goal of the site is to spark interest in a new ownership group to form a new team in Rapid City.  If that is not possible, to at least is to remember the old Rapid City Thrillers of the CBA who lasted in the league for ten great years from 1984 to 1995.

Quite possible the best direction to go in searching for a new team is the
ABA (American Basketball Association), the CBA (Continental Basketball Association) or the new NBDL (National Basketball Developmental League). The ABA is growing rapidly and should be considered as an easily viable and quite realistic league to join for a new team based in Rapid City, SD. More credibility would go towards a CBA or NBDL team, however.

4/25/08:
Exciting News! The Rapid City Journal published a front page article explaining the possibility of a new professional basketball team in Rapid City possibly within 3 to 5 years!!! The civic center is afraid to allow a new basketball team in until the new CHL hockey team (Rapid City Rush) has established itself. This is understandable, so we still have to wait a few years, but come 2012 I hope to be in the "house of noise" cheering on our pro basketball team once again.

2/28/07: Big news in Rapid City this year has been the expansion of the Civic Center. A new multipurpose arena hopes to be built before the end of 2007.  This arena would be able to accomodate 5,000 people for hockey games, 5,700 for basketball games and nearly 7,000 for concerts or other stage events. This news has prompted a few hockey leagues to look towards Rapid City for possible expansion. Click Here for the recent article in the Rapid City Journal. Unfortunately none of the newspaper articles have mentioned any interest in basketball leagues at all. The last time Rapid City hosted a pro basketball team has almost been a decade ago! There couldn't be a better time then NOW to secure a basketball team for the 2007-2008 season!!! WAKE-UP RAPID!!!!

I've expanded the information on
Wikipedia for the Rapid City Thrillers listing. I've included some stats and hopefully later I'll be able to expand even further. The great thing about Wikipedia is that anyone can contribute. Check it out!

8/21/06: Website launched! Have a look around. As mentioned above, if not to motivate a group to invest in a pro ball team in Rapid City, then this website is simply to take a path down memory lane. In time and given enough interest I might invest a little money into naming the website, www.rapidcitybasketball.com or some name related. Please take a look at all of the aspects of the website and feel free to email me.

Check out the "CBA Museum." It's an awesome site dedicated to displaying information on the extensive history of the CBA. It includes old and new programs, pocket schedules, statistics, and history pages of many CBA teams from the past and present. Chuck Miller (site administrator) told me that some time in the future he will add a history page of the Rapid City Thrillers, but until then check out his history page for the Tampa Bay Thrillers jam packed full of interesting information.
