Today I finally created an album for June where I have uploaded a few snapshots from my June day trip to Kansas City and from the hailstorm that followed that trip.
On Friday, Owen and Taylor added their dollars to those that lifted Planet of the Apes to the top of the food chain this weekend. They returned home to render their considered, unanimous opinion: it sucks.
But Lance Armstrong rules, they say. In the morning when I head to work, Taylor has been nesting in the cool of the basement to watch the tour on TV. When I return in the evening, he delivers an excellent commentary to me on the day's spills and crashes. That will end for a year.
I've been catching up on movies this week. Someday soon I might be up to the current year's crop. This weeks viewing included Gladiator, Contact, Angela's Ashes, and American Beauty.
Summer has gone so quickly that I've scarcely noticed it's summer. I'm not always a pessimist, but I do rue the signs of summer's passing: tonight is the last night of the county fair; students will be moving back to town in the next weeks in time for classes that resume around August 27th (Josh's classes at JMU begin the same day); our two younger kids resume public school on August 15th, very early this year; I've spotted several monarch butterflies in the garden recently; and doesn't the NFL exhibition season begin soon, and doesn't that mean that college football begins soon? Fall ain't all bad. 7:00 PM CDT (GMT -5)

So much that is so good might be missed because the Web holds so much. TomPaine.Common Sense, for instance. 7:20 AM CDT (GMT -5)

Just a few links to places I've enjoyed and wish to bookmark:
My recent waistline expansion has persuaded me that burning 15-20 lbs off wouldn't be such a bad thing. I can get geeky with my calories at the USDA Nutrient Database. Enter the name of the food in the search window and learn, for instance, that a Florida avocado has less fat than a California avocado does.
The Literature & Culture of the American 1950s provides a set of links that will burn hours off a life.
From the pages of Jade at My Jaded Journey, I've borrowed this link to the earth viewer provided by FourmiLab. 10:20 AM CDT (GMT -5)

I want to slip in here quietly and slowly by adding a few snapshots to an album for July. (At the top with the other navigation links, I've added a link to the album.) 9:40 PM CDT (GMT -5)

Admit it: When you're surfing your list of daily journal reads, isn't the discovery that one of them hasn't been updated sometimes a relief?
You can thank me later. 9:00 AM CDT (GMT -5)

Life, though not free of irritations and perturbations, has been good and remains so.
Thanks for asking. I'll be back soon later in the week, I think. 8:00 AM CDT (GMT -5)
