Life, though not free of irritations and perturbations, has been good and remains so.

Thanks for asking. I'll be back soon later in the week, I think.

Ikeda, Japan: Eight, six to eight, hardly on their way. Grief is not enough.

Wild turkeys seem to be abundant again this spring. I see several flocks every day on the drive to work. Although sighting a wild turkey has become a commonplace for me, the undulant march of a flock along a roadside or across a field still draws my eye.

On Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend, I spotted an indigo bunting (Passerina cyanea), the first I'd seen in this region in a long time. Then this past Sunday morning, while I daydreamed through a program at the fellowship, two indigo buntings climbed the hillside behind the fellowship building by darting from one red cedar to another until they ran out of cedars and disappeared into the hackberries and hickories near the top of the hill.

Relaxing after a hectic spring semester, I have time to notice and appreciate such things, but also to notice and disdain how dull I have become. A recharge would be welcome and must be found.

Wouldn't hurt if the sun shined once in a while, too.

A friend wrote to correct me, letting me know that Hinesight could still be reached at Passive Voice. Now, I knew this but had been too lazy to update the link with the new URL.

The inmate population at our house dropped by one on Wednesday when Josh flew off to Utah for a ten-day visit with the girlfriend, who attends college there. Josh has visions of hiking and camping in the Moab area with Jackie, but I suspect that she envisions outings with fewer rocks and granola bars. We shall see. Or he will.

Until Friday, when the sun shone through and temperatures returned to the 80 range, skies have been overcast and temperatures have rarely vaulted above 75 during the day and have fallen to 50 overnight. Blankets have returned to the beds, and windows have remained closed through the night. When I drove home from school Thursday afternoon, the air was cool enough to warrant giving the car's heater a nudge. When the sky is gray, these temperatures seem chilling and enervating, but toss me a few photons and these temperatures become brisk and invigorating.

In fact, the temperatures haven't yet hit 80 this week; the illusion of comparative warmth comes to me from the light.

I was sorry to find that the Hinesight archives had been removed again, but was heartened to find this.

After cruising through the Diarist awards for the first quarter, I paid my first visit to I Am, a stunning set of pages that rewards many extended visits.
