| This has been a busy week. I seem to have less and less time. I have had files to do and studying. It's just been busy. This week started out bad, although I thought it was going to be a good one. We were given the task of taking a bus load of grade 1 students around Depot and show them the sites. I thought great, I miss my kids and they are in grade 1 this should be great. I was paired up with a nice young man and proceeded to take him out of the APS building to show him the sites. As we walked, I was listening to him tell stories and I was answering the many questions that he had. I was first going to take him to see the gym. We had joined up with a few fellow troop mates and were touring together. As we approached the gym one of the sargeants came out. Cadet he said to me. Where is your ID tag! In the hallway when I was putting my coat on and talking to my new little friend I neglected to move my tag from my shirt to my coat. I will see you at 7:30 tomorrow morning cadet. CRAP I had just been Bozoed. What a way to start a Monday. So my day continued its downhill slide from there. After spending an hour with our little 6 year olds they got back on the bus and I realized just how much I missed my kids at home. Not really the way I wanted to start the week. That day was pretty much shot. The next morning I made sure my shirt and pants were wrinkle free and every thing was in its place. I made my way over to the drill hall at 7:30 for learning assistance aka bozo. I lined up with all my fellow bozoed buddies from other troops and we waited. After a few minutes one of the drill Cpls came marching out and brought us to attention. Then he marched over to each one of us and asked what were we doing there. I neglected to move my ID tag from my shirt to my coat Cpl. He tried to adjust my fur cap for a second and then moved on to the next cadet. He was caught marching in the drill hall with change in his pocket. After he had finished listening to our stories he then proceeded to tell us the importance of wearing a name tag and not having stuff in our pockets while we are in uniform etc etc. We were then dismissed and had to sign a deficiency book stating what our deficiency was. The rest of the day went a lot better. We finally got to fire the shot gun in firearms all be it 3 shots. One shot of 0" buck, one shot of 00" buck, and one shot of #8 bird shot. That was it. We then ran out of time and had to move to our pistols. This week was our 2nd PARE test. This one didnt count as far as the PARE tests went but they expected to see improvement from your last time. The PARE time was turned up from the 4:45 time that we had to do to get here to the RCMP standard of 4:00. The weights were increased from 70lbs to 75lbs on the push pull and the carry back went from 80lbs to 100lbs. Almost all the troop passed. One of the girls got 4:02 but that included a 5 second penalty. She gets an NI which gets cleared up when she passes her final PARE. When I first was ran the PARE to get to Depot I was getting times of 4:05 and 4:02. Then when I ran the first PARE here at Depot I got 3:51. This time I my time was 3:27. Amazing what a lot of physical training will do eh? The final PARE is the one that counts. You have to do it in under 4 min and you then have 80lbs on the push pull. If you fail that you get one more chance. Fail it again and you go home. We still have a few more months to worry about that. The weather finally broke after two months of -20 and colder. It was actually +5 on Thursday. Amazing. It's been like that ever since. Nice, sunny and hovering around the +5-8 range. We went from -20 Thursday morning to +5 by lunch. This weekend has been the Depot winter carnival. There has been sporting activities and games. I worked the bbq for an hour yesterday serving hot dogs and hamburgers behind the drill hall. This was open to cadets and the general public. Troop 26 cleaned up in the sporting events. I am proud to say that we were the main troop participating in the events. So much so that we won every event but one. That netted our troop $900 for our troop fund. Not a bad way to spend a sunny Saturday. This next week is gong to be a busy one. Monday morning we have rings. Another great way to start a Monday. We get paired up with another troop mate and we have 3 min of all out boxing/ kicking pretty much all out fighting. OOOO can't wait. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. He he.. We have patrol drive 3 where they will multi task us to death and the Coopers run(finally). Then on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we have 1st detachments. Thats where we get to play police man for the day. We will be dispatched to a call where one of our troop mates will be acting and we have to deal with him/her properly and then fill out the right paperwork. I am looking forward to that. It sounds like a fun week. On Friday night we have our half way party. (I cant believe we are half way). Anyhow, dont expect an update to the site anytime Saturday morning. Here goes week 11. |
