| Was that a week. Wow !!!! So hell week ended up to be a warm fire. Not that bad. I must admit we have some great facilitators who took some of the work load off us. We were busy but not over run. On our first Drill class of the week we were told to wear our ankle boots and to have them spit shined. Well there is shiny and then there is spit shined. We had shiny.. Not good enough. The entire troop got what's called "bozo parade" we had to get our boots up to spit shined level and report to the drill hall as a troop for inspection at 7:30am the next day. We were let go but there were still a few of us that had to bring our boots up. After 20+ coats of black polish and a little bit of neutral polish you wouldn't believe how glossy black your boots can get. We had what is called "Drive 1" on Monday. That was a driving test in downtown Regina. If you think you know how to drive, think again. The drive started off with a check of the vehicle which includes taking out the back seat, checking all the lights, the sirens, the fluids, the belts, and in the trunk for all the items that you might have to use as an RCMP member. Then we got to start the car. I had another cadet with me as well as two cpls, one in the front and one in the back. The drive was two hours of stress questions, directions, multi tasking and driving ability. You have to know the Sask driving law too which is different than BC law. For example one question that I got was "what is the speed limit for school grounds in Regina?" In BC it's always been 30kph. Well here in Regina I guess they think that their kids can run faster because its 40kph. Wow, I have nothing against Regina but the roads are really mixed up. Tons of one way streets and uncontrolled intersections. Exhaustion is definitely a factor now. We are getting around 6 hours sleep and the rest of the time you're on the move or at least have something to do. A few of us (me included) were struggling to keep our eyes open during some APS(Applied Police Science) classes this week. All I can say is TGIF because I don't have to wake up at 5:30 tomorrow morning. We had another firearms class this week. The troop is split in two. The first half of the troop is relay A and the second is relay B. I am in A and for the first hour we got to shoot while B learned how to clean their gun. My first group of 6 shots were nice but a little low and to the left. One of the instructors took my gun loaded a mag of 2 rounds and fired two shots dead center. Then he told me what I was doing wrong and how to correct it. The next 12 rounds were pretty much dead center. WOW these guys are good. It has been FREAKIN cold here this last week. The temperature has not been any warmer than -20. With windchill it has been in the -30 to -45 range. That makes marching from one side of Depot to the other a real test. If the troop decides to put the ear flaps up on our fuzzy fur caps then we all have to do it. You just have to hope that the wind around the corner is not that bad. That's about it for now. I have a practice downtown patrol drive in about an hour and I still have to eat. Yum chicken.... Check back next week. |
