| I think my brain is full now. I cant believe how much info they have packed into my head in the last 6 weeks. This by far has been the busiest week yet. We have had files to do tests, reading. Aaaaaa make it stop..... We had our first PDT (police defense tactics) benchmark test the other day. I was ready and felt good about it. When it finally came time for the test we were all separated into groups. The Cpl that took us asked ok who is on Mod B? Four of us raised our hands. Ok", he said "get out. Even though I was feeling fine we werent allowed to test. So we went out and practised PDT for an hour. Kind of goofy if you asked me but the reasoning for it was that if I did fail I then could say that my arm hurt and I wasnt up to par etc etc. I will have to go in sometime next week and test. We had our first noon parade this week. That is where we become a tourist attraction. Every day at noon Monday to Friday in the drill hall 3-4 troops and the band do a show for whom ever drops by. Usually there are three troops (unless there is a troop graduating that week). The most senior troop is at the front then a less experienced troop then the comic relief. That was us. Noon parade is not that hard but you are being watched its a little more difficult. The time calling that you learn to keep yourself in step you are not allowed to do. Then to throw in a twist they start saying all the commands in french. Ummm I dont speak french. Luckily there are a few people in our troop that do. We went over our movements in the drill hall the night before to get it down pat. I think that we did rather well considering that we didnt have a clue what we where doing. I guess if you really are bad they march you out the back door. We got to march out the front. We have noon parade twice next week. That should be fun. Today was my driving test called patrol 2. There is nothing in this world that will make your mind draw a blank more than driving around with a Cpl sitting beside you telling you where to go and evaluating your driving. I was told to look out for any Ford Windstar mini vans. When I did see one I was told to run the plate. At the same time the Cpl told me to take my next legal right followed by my 2nd legal left. I read the licence plate quickly as we drove passed the van. I picked up the mike called dispatch, turned the corner, dispatch responded and I asked (using the 10-codes) for ownership info etc etc on Saskatchewan marker ummm aaa 6 something and I seem to remember Golf alfa or was it alfa golf. Um Dispatch disregard that call... Luckily I had a 2nd and 3rd chance to do that and I got it right. I had a few mistakes and was told what to practice but I did get a P and was told that my basic skills are good. Practice, practice, practice. Patrol 3 apparently they multi task you to death. OOO cant wait for that. In fitness this week we had a fun class. We did whats called the back to front run. We first did about a 15 min warm up in the gym doing laps and sprints to get us puffing. Then with the fitness instructors setting the (FAST) pace we started to run the coopers run two by two in formation. Then when the instructor at the back said GO! the two people at the back of the pack had to break off and sprint to the front of the pack. All that for two miles. I was quite impressed that we all stayed together on that whole run. A few of us(me included) were a little stiff the next day. We now have to prepare for the Coopers test on Monday. We also have the dreaded OC or pepper spray on Wednesday. That is suppose to feel like somebody rubbing sand paper on your eyeballs. Hmmmm cant wait for that. I have seen the pictures of the other troops after the OC spray and it looks rather painful. We had our little brother/sister troop come in last weeked. We were the ones who had to greet them, show them around and give them all the rules of Depot. I recognized the "holy crap I'm here" look on a few faces. I have a TON of homework to finish for this weekend. I have a file to do and some work on the RCMP computer systems. All in all its going to be a busy weekend. I am really looking forward to next weekend. Mary is flying in for the weekend. Yay air miles... It will be nice to get off base for more than an hour or two and spend it with her. I wish the boys could come out but I will see them when I fly home over the Easter break. So if you are looking for an update next Friday, you are going to have to wait. :-) Check back and I will try to make a post when possible. |
