President's Message by Pres. Dante Verano

One of the noteworthy event this New Generation Month was the reactivation of the Interact Club of Marikina High School. Our Chairman George Ty and IPP Tony brought their newly elected officers to attend the RYLA at Philippine Social Science Center. This year, RC Metro Marikina and RC Caloocan Silangan sponsored the RYLA.

We successfully launched our Livelihood and Skills Training Program last Saturday, September 21, 2002. The program offers different livelihood modules like dressmaking, tailoring, bakers' training and electric fan repair. I would like to thank chairman Eduard Farcon for organizing this activity. Likewise thanks to IPP Tony, PE Dindo, VP Kiko, Dir Celso, Dir Val, Rtn. Jun Jun, Sps. Vising, Elai and Pres. Noemi for their support in this activity.

Congratulation to our Duckpin Bowlers who emerged as Fellowship Group Champion. We routed nine other teams in this event. Recognition goes to Chairman Rolly, PP Roland, PP Onie, PS Floren, PP Jimmy, PD George, Dir. Celso and Rtn. Jun Jun for giving their best to bring home the bacon. Likewise, congratulation to our Dart players: PP Roland, Rtn. Jun Jun, Rtn. Eduard, VP Kiko and PE Dindo for representing our Club in this event. The District Dart Tournament was held last Saturday night, September 21, at The Studio, Riverbanks Center.

As part of our continuing commitment to serve the community, last Tuesday September 24, 2002 our club in cooperation with the Marikina Valley Medical Society and the Marikina City Blood Bank had a Blood Letting Project. Chairman Doy, VP Kiko, PE Dindo and Rtn. Jun Jun donated 500 ml of their precious blood. I brought seven of my employees to donate each 500 ml of blood. Rtn. Ronie also did the same by bringing with him five of his employees. I would like to express my gratitude to these brave Rotarians who valiantly "give a part of their life" by giving blood. I would also like to thank Dir. Val, PP Flor, Rtn. Noel, Pres. Noemi and Marissa for giving encouragement to these volunteers who donated blood.

This morning we had our part two of the Vitamin A Supplementation Project under Chairmanship of Dir. Val. Some twelve sections of Grade 1 pupils of Sto. Nio Elementary were recipients of Vitamin A supplements. This will assure them of protection from Vitamin A deficiency. I would like to thank all Rotarians and spouses who graced with their presence this important activity.

Tonight, we are pleased to have our Sister Club, the Rotary Club of Angeles led by their President Jojo Flores to have fellowship with us. We are going to renew our sisterhood with them and will look forward to have a joint community project in the very near future.

To the delegation of RC Angeles, Welcome to the RC Marikina, we hope you have a pleasant stay.

Sa inyong lahat na patuloy na sumusuporta maraming salamat I love you all.

Secretary's Corner by Sec. Vincent Santos

"CREP"

In the observance of the month of September as the New Generation Month, we have CREP chairman PP Jun Farcon delivered the CREP about the Rotary's Programs for the New Generation last Thursday meeting. All clubs and districts are encouraged to undertake projects that support the fundamental needs of the New Generations: health, human values, education, and self-development. The RI Structured Programs for New Generations are: Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and Youth Exchange. PP Jun narrated his personal experiences as an Interactor in his high school being a member of an active Rotarian family. We learn many things that meeting and the interaction that followed was very lively.

"LIVELIHOOD AND SKILLS TRAINING"

It was a sunny afternoon last Saturday September 21, 2002 when Chairman Eduard Farcon launched our Club's Livelihood and Skill Training Program at MRYC. Dir. Val gave the blessing with his invocation, Pres. Dante delivered the inspirational message and Rtn Jun Jun Farcon talked on Bakery Skills Training. Other Rotarians who were at hand to give support to the project were IPP Tony, Dir. Celso, VP Kiko, PE Dindo. Sps. Vising, Pres. Noemi and Elai were also present.

"DISTRICT DARTS TOURNAMENT"

We had a good challenge last Saturday night, September 21, 2002 at The Studio, Riverbanks Center where the District Dart Tournament had it first round of competition. Our newly formed Dart team hammered the RC San Juan West but the RC Marikina Heights got the better of us. It was all fun night. Rotarian Jun Jun Farcon head our Dart team with Rtn Eduard, PP Roland. PP Jimmy Capco showed up too, and he was there to perk up our Team. Chairman Jun Jun is very optimistic we can capture the championship title in this event.

"BLOOD LETTING PROJECT"

"Give Blood, Save Lives" was the theme of our blood letting project. Rotarian Jun Jun Farcon was a little bit nervous being a neophyte blood donor but was cheered up by Project Chairman Doy, PE Dindo, Dir. Val, Rtn Ronie. VP Kiko have mustered enough energy and guts this time and donated some 500 ml of his precious (cholesterol laden) blood. PE Dindo did not back-out of the challenge and also donated the same amount of blood, same with Chairman Doy. That's not all, Pres. Dante have brought with him seven brave men to donate blood. Not to be outdone, Rtn. Ronie also brought five of his employees to give the same. So far this is the "bloodiest" project we have had, approximately 8000ml of blood was donated. Pres. Noemi and Sps. Marissa were also there to calm the tense donors.

SISTERHOOD FELLOWSHIP NIGHT

Tonight we will have the pleasure to meet and have fellowship with our sister Club, the RC Angeles. After a friendly game of golf in the morning they will stay up until our meeting. It is a very unique opportunity to spend pleasantries with Rotarians of our sister club.

"ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE"

Since 1929, students and host families all over the world have had their horizons broadened and their lives enriched by the generosity of Rotary's Youth Exchange program. Administered by Rotary clubs, districts and multi-district groups, the program today involves more than 82 countries and over 8,000 students each year.

The first documented exchanges date back to 1929, when the Rotary Club of Copenhagen, Denmark, initiated exchanges with European students. Exchanges between clubs in California, USA, and Latin American countries began in 1939, and exchange activities spread to the eastern United States in 1958. In 1972, the Rotary International Board of Directors agreed to recommend Youth Exchange to clubs worldwide as a worthwhile international activity promoting global peace and understanding.
