VOCATIONAL SERVICE MONTH
October is a special month devoted to Vocational Service, to emphasize the involvement of clubs, and not just individual Rotarians, in the everyday practice of the ideals of vocational service. Specific activities recommended to clubs during "Vocational Service Month" are: 1) the recognition of a Rotary Volunteer at a district-level event; 2) promotion of involvement in Rotary Fellowships; 3) sponsorship of a vocational service activity or project; and 4) promotion of membership development in open classifications.
There are twenty participants in our livelihood project every Saturday. Our livelihood modules include: dressmaking, tailoring, baking and electric fan repairs. I appreciate the efforts of the members livelihood committee headed by Rtn. Eduard Farcon in ensuring a better economic future for these participants.
ROTARY COMMUNITY CORPS
Our club witnessed last Thursday the induction of the newly elected officers of RCC Marikina. PP Joe Lee gave the inspiration to the club members and officers to do well in their new mandate. We are also looking forward to reactivate RCC Bagong Silang and RCC Malanday like we did with RCC Marikina.
ANOTHER SISTERHOOD AGREEMENT SIGNED
On the celebration of their 23rd Anniversary, the Rotary Club of Kamuning renewed their commitment with our club by signing the Sisterhood Agreement last Tuesday, October 8, 2002. PP Boy Ong, PP Flor, PP Joe, Dir. Pons, Dir. Celso, Rtn. Eduard represented our club in this event.
TENPIN BOWLING TOURNAMENT
Our club Bowling Team was adjudged second best in uniform in last Sunday's Tournament. A much stronger team outscored our two teams but it did not diminish its resolve to bring home the bacon. They are more determined to do their best this Sunday.
Congratulation to PP Roland Garcia for being chosen as one of the two nominating committee member of Marikina Zone that will pick the District Governor for Rotary Year 2004 - 2005.

"DENGUE PREVENTION - FUMIGATION"
Dengue fever, one of the dreaded diseases, which have caused morbidity and mortality to the population, is once again on the rise. Here in Marikina, statistical health reports show that most of the victims come from barangay Parang. This is the main reason why we chose Parang as our target for the fumigation of the Aedes Egypti Mosquito.
After the slight shower, the Rotarians of RC Marikina together with the city health personnel trooped to Parang armed with the powerful fumigation machines. La Mar Village and Herbosa compound were the first targets and after a few minutes everything was enveloped with the white clouds containing the chemicals fatal only to the mosquitoes. Those present who also nearly got fumigated were: Pres. Dante, Spouse Pres. Noemi, PE Dindo, Sec. Vincent, Dir. Val, PD Edwin, Rtn. Danny, Rtn Noel and Rtn. Claro. Rtn. Manny Torres from RC Ortigas Center also joined the group.
"ROTARY COMMUNITY CORPS INDUCTION"
During our meeting last October 3, 2002, which was graced by the presence of our District Governor Efren De Guzman, officers of the reorganized RCC were inducted. The new group promised to be active and dedicated to the goals and endeavors of the RCC. No other than PP Joe Lee, chairman of the RCC Program lead the charging of the officers followed by their induction by no other than District Governor Efren De Guzman.
"LIVELIHOOD TRAINING PROJECT"
Last Saturday, October 5, 2002, there was a gathering of prospective participants for our livelihood-training project. This worthwhile project aims in training our needy citizens for them to have a means to earn a living to tide them over these hard times. Chairman of the program, Rtn. Eduard facilitated the registration of the participants. 12 registered under dressmaking/tailoring, 5 for baking and 4 for electric fan repair. Present during that afternoon session were: Pres. Dante, PE Dindo, Sec. Vincent, Director Responsible Celso and Rtn Eduard.
"NOMINATING COMMITTEE"
As early as now, the district is already preparing in choosing the next District Governor for the Rotary year 2004 and 2005. This task involves the participation of all the clubs of the 8 Zones of District 3800. This is done thru proper coordination and representation.
It is our club's pride and honor for PP Roland Garcia to be chosen as one of the members of the Nominating Committee. Rest assured therefore that our club and our Zone are in the hands of a worthy and highly professional representative.

"VOCATIONAL SERVICE"
Last week we gave you an insight on what vocational service means and how it is exemplified by Rotarians both in their vocations and in the club. Here are now some of the areas where it can be performed:
- Vocational Awareness: giving classification talks and conducting tours of members' businesses.
- Vocational Awards: recognizing vocational excellence and high ethical standards.
- Career Development: using members' professional experience to advance employment, developing and supporting apprenticeship programs, organizing career-planning programs in schools, and retraining adults for new vocations.
- Vocation at Work: generating new jobs within the community; working with retirees; addressing drug, alcohol and literacy problems in the workplace; creating vocational opportunities for the disabled; and promoting high ethical standards.
- Ethics: leading conferences and panel discussions for community members on ethical issues facing the community and holding group discussions for students where they apply the 4-Way Test to case studies.
