President's Message by Pres. Dante Verano

Last Sunday, our two Bowling Teams performed their best. Congratulation to Team B for their improved performance. They are Rtn. Junjun, PE Dindo and PP Tony. At long last we won the second set against RC Metro Marikina with total of eight hundred fourteen pin falls. Sana hindi tsamba lang at maulit ito. More power to our Chairman PP Boy and Team Captain PP Roland for motivating our players to give their best shot. Let us show our support to our Teams by watching them play this Sunday.

Our fourth monthly Health Care Project will be held this Sunday, October 27 at Aglipay Church in Malanday. We will provide free cardiac check-up, ECG, Blood Chemistries like Sugar, Cholesterol and Triglyceride. Chairman PP Eric will work with the Marikina Valley Medical Society thru their President; Dir. Val. Dir. Jessie will host this activity in behalf of the Aglipay Church. He promised a sumptuous lunch for everybody. Dont miss this opportunity to enjoy serving our community.

In advance observance of All Souls Day, we will have Halloween Party tonight. Thanks to the loving efforts of our spouses led by Pres. Noemi who is in charge of the preparation, physical arrangement and entertainment. Thanks also to PP Al Ancheta for sharing us one lechon. Hope everybody will be in their best costume and will enjoy our fellowship. Fellow Rotarians, I love you all.

Secretary's Corner by Sec. Vincent Santos

"CREP - TRF/POLIO PLUS"

As part of our regular monthly Continuing Rotary Education Program, the club had for its guest speaker last October 17, 2002, PP Marcelo Jun Zafra Jr. The topic, which was suggested by our club president, Dante was on The Rotary Fund - PolioPlus. Our speaker effectively delivered his talk that included a lot of encouragement on how to come up with various worthwhile community projects. He also encourages all Rotarians to somehow be an active contributor to the Rotary Fund and through this help in the worldwide eradication of polio.

"LIVELIHOOD - DRESSMAKING"

The livelihood program module on dressmaking has been going on since more than a week ago. The participants underwent training in dressmaking last October 18 and 21 at the MRYC. As of present counting, there were 16 registered participants learning how to cut and sew dresses. Present during these sessions to lend support to Project Chairman, Rtn. Eduard were: PE Dindo, Sec. Vincent and Rtn. Doy.

"TENPIN BOWLING TOURNAMENT"

Last Sunday, October 20, 2002, our players displayed their might, coupled with luck as they had a taste of victory. These may be the start of strings of victories that will lead them to the championship. The team players for Team A were: PP Roland, PP Joe J. and Sps. Minia, PP Jimmy T., VP Kiko, Sps. Corie and Rtn. Rey. For Team B: Pres. Dante, IPP Tony, PE Dindo, Rtn. Jun Jun and Sps. Lynn. PP Boy and Dir. Pons of Team B were also there for the much needed encouragement and support.

Team B was organized barely 1 week before the opening ceremonies of the District Tenpin Bowling Tournament. It was formed not to win in any category. It was there just for fellowship. Guts and sheer guts was the only order in the minds of these novice and inexperienced players of our club, with almost 90% of them holding a bowling ball for the very first time in their lives. So what did we see? The opposition lambasted Team B. We lost by 300 pin falls during the first game. Seeing for the first time what a bowling alley looks like, these gritty players submitted scores only their mothers would appreciate. We then lost 200 pin falls the next game. Another 100 the following one. On the average these Rotarians of our dear Club scored 85 per game, a good score for the District Golf Tournament. The next round produced the same result a pathetic 3 game loss for our squad. But alas! Last Sunday was different. We won over our opponents in the second game. We scored a total of 800+, defeating a very strong team of RC Metro Marikina. A certain kind of euphoria filled the air; high five were thrown, bodies gyrated, Dantes mouth grinned from ear to ear. We conquered them like no other Rotarians in the District would believe. Even the other teams could only sigh in disbelief. He! He! He! We beat them black and blue. We beat them in their favorite game. Imagine a team like us lording over the championship caliber group? We could not have thought of this when we formed this team. We did not expect anyway to win any game for the whole season. But we won!

Can Tony be our anchor in the Championship games? How about Dindo, Del? Maybe Pons?

"VOCATIONAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES"

In addition to Vocational Service projects undertaken by clubs and districts, Rotarians have several other opportunities to enhance their vocational skills and share them with the community, such as the following:

Rotary Volunteers is designed to create greater awareness among Rotarians of the volunteer opportunities available within their own communities and other communities and to provide Rotarians with resources to support their volunteer efforts at the club, district, and international levels.

Revolving Loan Funds provide small-business loans to people who have no credit history or access to commercial bank loans. The ultimate goal is for these entrepreneurs to become financially independent and eligible for loans from commercial banks.

Rotary Fellowships are independent Rotarian-administered groups organized around a specific recreational activity or profession. Recreational Fellowships provide an excellent opportunity for Rotarians and their spouses to enjoy their favorite hobbies with like-minded Rotarians from around the world. Vocational Fellowships give Rotarians the opportunity to share information and undertake service projects with other Rotarians who are engaged in similar professions in other countries.
