President's Message by Pres. Dante Verano

November is The Rotary Foundation Month. RI President Bhichai Rattakul is calling all Rotarians to make their own personal commitment to the Foundation. He said that in this period of international conflict, there is a new sense of urgency to carry out our work. As Rotarians, we can contribute to a brighter future.

One of RI highest priority remains the PolioPlus. Our contribution to the PolioPlus can help raise $80 million to support the goal to totally eradicate polio by 2005. We should contribute to ensure protection of every child not only in our country but around the world. This will be our way to Sow the Seeds of Love through The Rotary Foundation & PolioPlus. Our TRF Chairman, PP Manny and PolioPlus Chairman, IPP Tony is very eager to receive your Love Offerings for the TRF & Polio Plus.

Tonight, we will have again the pleasure to meet our energetic, handsome AG Jun Angeles. We will present to him our humble Plans & Objectives for the Rotary Year 2002-2003. Join me in giving him a warm welcome and reception.

Next meeting, we look forward to a grand welcome to our District 3800 Governor Efren De Guzman and his party. Let us prepare our best and show them the warm hospitality. Please come with your spouses.

Again, I thank you all for your continuous and generous support and cooperation. Remember I Love you all.

Secretary's Corner by Sec. Vincent Santos

"HALLOWEEN PARTY"

Last Oct. 24, 2002, after our meeting together with the energetic inner wheelers who inducted two new members, was our clubs Halloween party. It was a party to remember. The MRYC was converted to a horror house complete with skeletons, bats and cobwebs. Most of the Rotarians and spouses came in black with some of them unrecognizable in their spooky Halloween costumes. Entertainment was a Thriller MTV complete with Zombies led by Pres. Dante and PE Dindo. Best in their Halloween costumes were the hunchback of Marikina, PP Eric and our secretary, Irene as Bruha. We all had our fill of the sumptuous dinner complete with lechon courtesy of PP Al, ice cream, etc. Singing and dancing followed led by our lead vocalist PN1stVP Zeny and the laban-laban, bawi-bawi inner wheel dancers.

"TENPIN BOWLING TOURNAMENT"

Team A had a good performance this week after winning over their opponents. Tenpin bowling chairman PP Boy expressed his confidence that Team A will make it to the top 3. Of course he also has high hopes for Team B.

"HEALTH CARE PROJECT"

PP Eric, Chairman of the Healthcare Project led the group last Oct. 27, 2002 on a free Medical, Dental, ECG, FBS, and Cholesterol, Triglyceride determinations at the Aglipayan Church, Malanday, and Marikina. Also there to support the project were doctors from the Marikina Valley Medical Society Led by their President Dir. Dr. Val. There were dentists from the city Health Office care of Councilor, Dir, Dr. Fabi, and a daughter of a Rotarian from RC Marikina North. Our partners from the drug industry were: Servier, Eli Lilly and Pfizer. There were more than 50 patients who had free FBS, Cholesterol and Triglyceride determinations. Around 50 patients had their ECGs taken. Forty (40) had underwent dental extraction and around 80 had free adult and pediatric medical consultations.

Also present to lend a helping hand were: Pidiong and Meldy, Joe and Fely, Manny and Zeny, Rudy, Val, Benjie, Vincent and Eula, Flor and Vising, Dante and Noemi, Fabi, Celso and Jessie.

he best thing that followed was the delicious lunch prepared by Dir. Jessie and company for the hungry volunteers. Of course, included in the menu were the piping hot pinesang dalag, rellenong bangus, fried chicken, etc. and the ginataang bukid

"DISTRICT HALLOWEEN PARTY"

The cold rain that evening of October 28, 2002 did not dampen the Halloween spirits of the Rotarians of District 3800 that trooped to Valle Verde Country Club for the District Halloween Party. All came in black with some bolder souls wearing more daring and revealing getups. The party was a success considering the standing room attendance and the amount of preparation, dcor and set up of the host club RC Pasig South to produce that authentic Halloween feel. There was a terrific retro band, The Rock Revival who provided the music that kept almost everybody gyrating on the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning. Rotarians from our club who showed their expertise in dancing the twist, soul, boogie, cha cha and maski paps were the following led by DG Efren and Pam, Pres. Dante and Noemi, Sec. Vincent and Eula, Rtn. Doy and Vick and PN1stVP Zeny.

"RC MARIKINA ELECTION"

The Chairman of the COMELEC of our club, PP Roland Garcia together with COMELEC Members, PP Eric Ignacio and IPP Tony Fidelino would like to officially announce the election of Officers and Directors of RC Marikina on Dec. 5, 2002 during our meeting.
