Rotary Club of Cebu A Brief History |

In October 1932 the second Rotary Club in the Philippines was organized in Cebu under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Manila on provisional basis with twenty six charter members. On October 5, 1932 RI sent E. Stanton Turner of RC Manila to Cebu as special representative to oversee its organization. |

Charter Members & Officers On November 28, 1932, the Rotary Club of Cebu was officially chartered by Rotary International under Charter 3559. The Certificate of Charter of the Rotary Club of Cebu was presented in hand on February 16, 1933 by Theodore “Ted” Hall, of the Rotary Club of Manila. (See charter members) |

| The operation of the club was interrupted after its meeting on December 4, 1941 by the outbreak of the Second World War. That fateful meeting featured a fellow club member and chairman of the International Service Committee, Rtn Noya of the Japanese company Mitsui, who thereafter left for Japan only to reemerge as a Major of the invading Japanese Army. Two of the club members died trying to repulse the invaders: Rtn Valentino Segura and Rtn Fitz Reed. | ||

The war having ended, the club reconvened in September 1945 with fifteen of its members attending, joined by a number of Rotarians from the U.S army who provided a venue for the meetings at their quarters. Henry “Henie” Gasser was elected president though short-lived owing to ill health. PP Alfredo Deen took over the position. Officially, the Rotary Club of Cebu was readmitted to RI on June 21, 1946 with Alfredo Deen as president and Vicente Faelnar as secretary. It was not until December 12, 1972 that the club received a replacement of its charter, the original having been destroyed by the war |
