  Active Service Projects of RCC

1. Community Scouts and Guidance Center (CSYGC)

Concerns addressed: livelihood, letiracy, health and hunger, shelter, Rotary family, vocational service, youth

Chairman: Jerico Sungahid

The project assists erstwhile street children and minors apprehended for petty offenses, mostly shoplifting and pilferage. At any time about fifty of them are housed in a center while undergoing rehabilitation and counciling. Many of them decide to stay at the center where they have a chance to pusue teir education or recieve vocational training. For more than two decades now, the Rotary Club of Cebu has been deeply involved in this project by funding their educational pursuit and vocational training. The club members and their families join the beneficiaries in a lunch and games to celebrate Christmas. The project recieves regular financial assistance from the Rotary Club of Yotsukaido, which sends a delegation to Cebu each year to visit their beneficiaries. In the past, it also recieved one-time assistance from a number of foreign Rotary Clubs in response to a WCS listing.

The big challenge confronting the project this Rotary year is that it has soon to transfer to another location in view of the sale by the City Government of its present site in the North Reclamation Area.

  2. Project for Deaf-Mute

Concerns addressed: Literacy, health and hunger

Chairman: Frederick B. Kintanar

The deaf-mute sector of society is a group that is often forgotten. The Rotary Club of Cebu has taken the initiative of somehow alleviating their plight by sponsoring the travel of a deaf-mute representative, including an escort, to India fro their educational training. In turn these representative will apply their knowledge for the benifit of the disadvantaged group in Cebu at a special school for them in Basak, Cebu City. The RCC intends to expand its involvement in this project by applying for a matching grant from the RI foundation.

  3. Holistic Life Preparedness Program (HLPP)

Concerns addressed: Literacy, youth

Chairman: Dir Roy Lotzof

The project spends for the education of the children coming from very poor families in Mandaue City who are left behind by several school years among their peers. Without the intervention of the project they would have foregone further schooling on account of the age gap and likely turn into misguided members of our society.
