Description: Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Company is
the Philippines’ #1 telephone service provider based on total number of
subscribers. Its primary business is providing landline (fixed line) services
nationwide. It is also the #1 mobile phone service provider through its
subsidiary, Smart
Communications, which offers cellular services on a nationwide basis. In
the past, it also offered paging services under the Beeper 150 brand, through
its subsidiary, Piltel. Lastly, PLDT also offers
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services through its
subsidiary, ePLDT.

Communications – handles PLDT’s

Mobiline
The first postpaid brand of Piltel, it was launched
sometime in 1991 using the AMPS network. It was relaunched as Mobiline Digital
in 1998 using the new CDMA network. Today, there are no more Mobiline
subscribers due to the shutting down of the AMPS & CDMA network. Mobiline
subscribers were requested to migrate to Talk ‘N Text.

Smart PRICEBUSTER
Plans
The first postpaid brand of Smart, it used the ETACS
network. It was launched sometime in 1994. Today, there are no more Pricebuster
subscribers due to the shutting down of the ETACS network. All Pricebuster
subscribers were requested to migrate to the new Smart GOLD plans.

Phone Pal
The first prepaid brand of Piltel, it was introduced
in 1997 using the AMPS network. In 1998, it was relaunched as Phone Pal X-CEL
using the new CDMA network. Today, there are no more Phone Pal subscribers due
to the shutting down of the AMPS & CDMA network. Phone Pal subscribers were
requested to migrate to Talk ‘N Text.

Smart BILLCRUSHER
The first prepaid brand of Smart, it also used the
ETACS network. It was introduced sometime on 1998. Today, there are no more
Billcrusher subscribers due to the shutting down of the ETACS network. All
Billcrusher subscribers were requested to migrate to the new Smart BUDDY
prepaid service.
The second postpaid brand of Smart, it used the new
digital GSM network. It was launched in April 1999. Smart GOLD is suitable for
those who talk more often. You can convert your Addict Mobile to Smart Gold
without changing your mobile number.
The second prepaid service of Smart, it also runs on
the GSM network. It was introduced in September 1999.

Talk ‘N Text
The second prepaid brand of Piltel launched in April
2000, it also uses the GSM network. This brand is suitable for those who use
their cellphones more often for making voice calls.
The third postpaid brand of Smart, it also uses the
GSM network. It was launched in May 2003 and is primarily for those who use more
of Value-Added Services than voice calls, as opposed to Smart Gold. You can
convert your Smart Gold to Addict Mobile without changing your mobile number.

For postpaid
application, you may proceed to the nearest Smart Wireless Center.
For prepaid, if you’re
a user who mostly makes voice calls, buy a TNT MegaSIM for only P90, which

It was initially introduced under the brand name
TELETIPID, but the PLDT Group stopped marketing on that brand and introduced a
new brand name, TELESULIT.
All existing subscribers of TELETIPID can easily migrate to TELESULIT
just by loading a TELESULIT card. PLDT plans to stop selling TELETIPID cards
within this year (2003).
PLDT also markets the PLDT Touch Card
product. This prepaid card is best used when calling to places outside your
local service area (NDD calls) or making calls to cellular phones. You may also
use this on any PLDT postpaid landline or any Fonkard Plus payphone. It can
also be used abroad when calling to the Philippines.
PLDT also markets the PLDT Budget Card.
It is a prepaid card mainly used to call international destinations, at lower
rates.
PLDT also offers landline texting through PLDT Hype. You
may also avail of PLDT
Hype through the regular postpaid plans.

Postpaid Landline
PLDT has various call plans
available for business and residential subscribers. Piltel also has various
AXESS call plans available for business and residential subscribers (in
selected areas only). You may go to the nearest PLDT or Piltel Business Office
to apply.

Payphone Service

PLDT has coin-operated and card-operated payphones
nationwide. The card-operated payphones uses PLDT Fonkard
Plus cards. Smart also has SmartTALK
Payphones, which may primarily be used for texting or calling cellular phones
and landlines outside the local service area at lower rates. It is operated
using SmartTALK
prepaid cards.
Nationwide internet access using your laptops. Available
where there is coverage of the Smart GPRS/EDGE network.
Fixed wireless access to your homes. You are connected
via a line-of-sight connection with a Smart cell site near your home.

You are connected to the internet through the PLDT
nationwide landline network.
