Shizuoka Street Performers World Cup
The World Cup for Street Performers have been a part of Shizuoka since 1992. This year, over a 100 different performers entertained by  juggling, pantomime, acrobatics, magic, clowning and feats of strength. "World Cup" means that performers come from all around the world to compete in this five day free street fair. There were twenty different stages and performing areans within 2 miles of the Shizuoka Train Station. Everything was an easy walk to see. Here are a few I performers I was able to  enjoy.
TENSO - Tenso  uses masks and dance to present stories in mime. He uses audience members to enhance the story. For lovers of classic Japanese theater, this act has its beginning in the Kabuki and the music of the Noh dramas. It is easy to see a Michel Jackson moon walk in one dance. His slight of hand provided enjoyment and laughter for all viewers.
Left Picture:
DAVE RAMSEY , a New Yorker, performerd magic and used a 10' unicycle in his act. He presented the most variety by using humor, a young boy from the audience, juggling, white doves, he "accidently" let get away, (they returned later in the show) and fire juggling on the unicycle. He was a good showman.
TAC, juggles ordinary household items in a unique routine he created himself. I watched him twice. Language is not a barrier for his entertainment. Here he is juggling a tennis racket, bowling ball and an umbrella, which was tossed in from the audience.
This full face make-up costs 1500 yen ($14). I saw kids and adults all around town with amazing face paintings.
ALAN SULC- This 12 year old boy juggled and bounced balls while dancing the Irish jig. Here is keeps seven balls bouncng and in the air. His father kept adding a ball until he had ten going at once. It was hard to believe that this young boy had such fast hands and great co-ordination.
BENCHA are two ladies and a man who dance and do artistry 20' high on satin ribbons. This was colorful and the movements were  synchronized  with classical music.
In Supu Park there were six performing stages, children's activity areas (inflatable slides, play houses and enclosed play grounds). There were rows of vendors with food, arcade games and things to buy. This was a large carnival, circus and street fair all in one. What an experience I had.
