The Sports Festival opens with students performing a dance to the beat of a solo drum. This was very impressive to watch. |

The first morning's events were team races, run with two members from each grade level team per heat.Athletes run two students per lane. Girls run a 300 meter race, boys a 400 meter one. All students participate by random draw in a heat. The student behind acts as the starting block and then they run their heat next. Place points are counted for all heats. |

The next event was a mixed gender race. Each groupof three participated in a group portion, runnng about 100 meters to the next group. It bagan with a tire pull, one rideing, two pulling, then a box carry, a wheelborrow ride and finally a bamboo pole carry, then it is back to the initial tire pull and around again. The students continue around until all the team has particpated. The final student mounts two #10 cans and races to a table at the middle of the field, here they uncover their teams' color paper which reveals a teacher's name. They can dismount, find the teacher and bring them to the starter. First one done is the winning team. This was the most fun event to watch. |

Boys look forward to the traditional mounted horse battle. Three boys cup their hands to make a horse and saddle, one shirtless boy mounts the horse and tries to remove other team member's colored head band. At the same time you must protect your own band. A lost band means you are eliminated and points are awarded to the opposite team. This is one of the oldest games for boys, and it used to be very violent. Today the bands replace knocking each other down. |

The girls wait their turn for their game. It is a form of steal the bacon. On a center line the staff lays, balls, long poles, orange cones, a landing mat, softball bats and small objects. At the firing of the starter gun , girls race to grab items. As fewer items remain, each team gangs up on fewer opponents to get the object back to their side. I know this, juinor high girls don't give up to each other without a struggle. |

This is a team unity race. Each student's legs are banded together and they must run one lap around the track. At the end of the lap they place the colored neck scarf around the next heats lead person. Without team work, students falter, trip and fall. One team was far ahead until the fell at the last ten meters. |
