The History of Rumah Bakti

For a sense of responsibility and sympathy to the orphans, a group of community activists and senior officers of the State Government has successfully set up and register the "United Nations Educational Orphan Houses" by Registration Number ARS / Tue / 50/66 on August 16, 1966.


With the approval of this application, the Committee had been active to achieve its objectives. Y.Bhg services over the late Dato 'Haji Harun Idris and his wife Datin Y.Bhg Salama Suleiman, the State Government has granted a plot of land in Mukim Hulu Kelang (HS.231) covering an area of 4.8 acres in the approval document number PHT.G.2 / 139 / 75. To determine this project can be implemented successfully Y.Bhg late Dato 'Haji Harun Idris was appointed as Chairman of this Organisation.


The result of these efforts, several programs were carried out as Dinner, Premiere and appeals to the members, the Society was able to devote to building homes at a cost of RM158,107.81. His Majesty Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj son of the late Sultan of Selangor Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah has consented to become patron RBHK. In the early stages, making orphans was first made in 1976, consisting in total of 26 people, 13 men and 13 women between the ages of 6 to 12 years old. RBHK was inaugurated by the Sultan of Selangor on March 5, 1977. From year to year the number of orphans has increased, and so far in 2013, Rumah Bakti was inhabited by a total of 83 orphans aged from 7 to 17 years.


On March 2, 1982 two hostel blocks 2 a new level has been completed. Both the dormitory blocks worth RM600,000.00 and contributed by the State Government and public donations. A mosque was built in 1984. In 2009 a new mosque was built to replace the old mosque. The new mosque has been donated by YBhg Datin Salmah Sulaiman, wife of the late Dato 'Haji Harun Idris. RBHK has got a new library in 1989. The library is a resource center in 1997. Since RBHK has got a new mosque, the old mosque built in 1984 was renovated into a new Resource Center. The center is divided into two parts, namely, a library and a computer room.


As a tribute to the late YBhg Dato 'Haji Harun Idris, the members of the United Nations Educational Orphan Selangor had agreed to change the name Rumah Bakti Hulu Kelang (RBHK) to Rumah Bakti Datuk Harun (RBDH) along with the symbol change Rumah Bakti also amended and approved amendments by the Registrar of Societies on 29 July 2011.
