New year, new milestones. After talking about it for what seems like an eternity, I have finally completed my 50th RPG review. Okage: Shadow King joins its conquered brethren on a path that has taken me more than three years to traverse - the road to Platinum status on RPGamer. I was a bit overconfident on the journey, and my lapse has allowed Otterland to reach there before me. Nevertheless, with no higher ranking offered, I am content in knowing that I have reached the end of this particular journey. One has ended, many more remain. As a special New Year bonus, I have also completed the Links section. There is an impressive 26 links in there already, and that number promises to grow over the coming weeks. I also took the time and cleaned up the code for the site in general, and trimming some things here and there. Although my Christmas Break extends until the 10th, it undeniably feels over already. Some of my best friends and my girlfriend will be heading back to college starting tomorrow, and it is unlikely that I will be doing much for the rest of the week beyond playing my newly acquired Final Fantasy X-2. I'm still languishing behind dial-up, so do not expect much in the way of updates until after I get back to Witt. The first two weeks will probably be very hectic, but we'll just have to see how that goes.

So it's a good thing colleges don't advertise the fact that students will be spending almost $450 extra per semester for books. Nothing like emptying one's bank account to ease the transition between the month-long Winter break and Spring semester. Yeah, I'm back. Two new Links are up, including one which essentially makes my Canvassing the Net feature all but obsolete. Seriously though, I thought being able to download MP3s for free from websites was dead. Apparently I am wrong. Strange world, eh? For those that are curious, here are my classes this semester (course level in parenthesis):

Holy Hell. Somewhere between the 7:00 am Fraternity meetings, the $450 books, and the classes which are requiring 80+ pages of material to be read within the next two days, I have come to the conclusion that this will be my worst year at college, ever. When you start to realize Financial Accounting will be your most enjoyable class, I'd say that's pretty much Game Over right there. Seriously, I have no idea how I'm going to make it through this semester without completely losing my mind. You could probably take this as a clear indicator that any future updates I do happen to make will be done in-between the manic screams. Welcome to college.

It is small consolation, but I must admit that the Japanese Literature course has managed to completely redeem itself during its second day. The readings were still incomprehensible, but at least I was able to understand their merit in the grand scheme of things. The teacher also made some very lucid observations in relation to the readings - observations that have tangibly changed the way I look at things already. Some of these changes affect how I view Evangelion, so one could expect a revision of the Evangelion: Take Care of Yourself feature had I the time to do so. I look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy different as well once the teacher pointed out how the novel itself was simply an allegory of WWII, placed in a fantasy setting. Indeed, if I was not bound by truly asinine Fraternal "obligations" I would muse upon this more in length. As it were, I must instead complete homework, 78 additional pages of reading, a class journal, and studying for two quizzes before the 7:00 am meeting tomorrow morning. My only solace in this regard is that after next week, the Fraternity seniors will no longer be in a position to repeat this profound mismanagement of human resources. Yeah, Jason, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Things are tremendously better today than they were a few days ago. I went with Lake to talk with Jason and John about the meetings and mismanagement yesterday afternoon, and the dialogue continued for about two hours. It has demonstrated to have been productive, with Jason gathering a lot more feedback from other members before deciding to do things. In fact, I am actually looking forward to this coming week with Rush and living in the House for six days. Not quite sure how I'm going to enjoy it with all my assorted classes/work, but I am pretty much willing at this point to write the week off as a loss if necessary. If my usual sarcasm renders that ambiguous, allow me clarify: I feel this coming week is going to be worth it.

We're in the home stretch now. I'm of course referring to Rush Week - I still have 66 days of class after all. Not that I'm counting down or anything. So I'm going to be missing tomorrow's activities by virtue of Excel tutorials, colloquiums, homework, and related uselessness. On Friday every fraternity member is required to leave all the dorms, so I anticipate lots of Halo and Axis & Allies for the duration of that night and most likely the whole of Saturday morning. Rush will be over then, so perhaps I will be able to reacquire my abandoned sleeping habits and actually have time to develop meaningful content. This does assume that a majority of you desire less blog and more content. Judging by this month's traffic report, I can say that the above is a pretty safe assumption.

The results are in: eight new guys, including Todd and myself. We went into Rush with the assumption of around 8-12 completely new members, and even thought we had a good chance of getting that amount up until Bid Day. The results came back that only four people chose us. Luckily enough, the entire Bid Day thing was not advertised very much leaving a large number of people confused as to what they were supposed to do. With our superior planning abilities though, we managed to snap bid two of the first-draft picks, so to speak. All of this brings our House up to about 30 people. After getting 6 hours of sleep for the entirety of this week, I managed to grab 12 last night. After a 5:00 pm breakfast and finishing the mountain of homework I had zero time to do for the past two days, I shall finally be able to relax. Relax, that is, until two weeks from now when I begin Initiation Week. Fun fun.

We nabbed a 9th new member, apparently. The Links page has been given a slight upgrade and I have edited my Cowboy Bebop review just enough to warrant a mention. With all my newfound free time, I just might begin on that Evangelion: Take Care of Yourself revision sometime this week as well. Meanwhile, I am getting rather close to the end of FFX-2 from what I've been told, so suspect a rather mediocre score attached to a swell review in the near future. Unless, of course, the game takes a giant leap from "playful albeit ultimately shallow tide pool" to "wonderfully diverse and surprisingly deep ocean" sometime after executing the master plan of saving the world by throwing a concert. My suspension of disbelief can only be stretched so far, and exclaiming "Poopie!" during moments of extreme mortal peril does not assist me in this regard. So, yeah, expect a mediocre score.
