Razor Witt is Dead, Long Live Razor Witt
3:41 pm

Welcome to Razor Witt v2.0.

After a somewhat successful opening page, I was beginning to feel a little constrained under the old format. Constrained in what ways, you ask? It really had to do with the direction the old site was going. As I mentioned in the "surprise" update a few weeks ago, updating three times a week is grueling work. Not only is it grueling, but for most cases, it is also completely pointless. When I went to update the page, most of the time was spent messing around with the HTML code or making page icons instead of actually have some sort of content on the site. The result of the whole mess was boring monologues written in lieu of interesting game guides, art, or rants. No more.

As the first official update of Razor Witt v2.0, I'll go ahead and lay down the ground rules of how this version will work. First, I no longer have an update schedule. I could update daily, weekly, or not at all. This is good for you, because it means when I do update, there will actually be something worth checking out. Without an update schedule in place, I've opted to make it easier to see how soon until a new update will appear via the Update Bar. The Update Bar is located underneath the logo on the front page. As I work on various projects, the Update Bar will increase to reflect how far along with the project I am. The fuller the bar is, the sooner the update...usually. Conceivably, I could get real close to finishing a project, but for some reason not update the page for a while. I'll try not to get into those sorts of situations, but they're possible.

Second, the site appearance will reflect the amount of content the site actually has. In other words, I'm not going to make a Rant or Games page until I have rants or game news ready to go. This will hopefully be less frustrating for you guys and easier for me at the same time. On the topic of site appearance, I am making a concerted effort to not have such a cluttered site as I did before. All those buttons, pictures, links, etcetera, were totally unnecessary. I am also trying to be a little more pleasing to the eye as well. So there you go.

Well, those are the basic ground rules; expect more to come as the site continues to evolve. If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or other pressing need, you can contact me via email.

Fine, the first official update of Razor Witt wasn't much to get excited about. You win. Here's a cookie.

Moving on, the About and Archive pages are up and located to your left for your surfing pleasure. The About section will be updated periodically throughout the rest of the week without affecting the Update Bar, so you'll know when I'm actually working on something of merit. In the meantime, the additions to the About section will mostly consist of bringing over the contact information I had on the original site. There will be other things stored there as well, such as a FAQ, description of this site's history, a bio, and so on. Basically, everything you've ever wanted to know about this site and its creator will be centralized in the About section.

The Archive section is also up and running, and you can browse the complete library of historic entries located there. I've set it up to where Archiving each new update will be fairly easy to do, which means I'm likely to keep that section around permanently this time. At the moment, I'm still debating on to whether or not offer links to past updates from version 1.0 of Razor Witt. I suppose it depends on how busy I am during December. I'll keep you posted.

Just to give you a heads up on what to expect next update, I'll probably re-open the Games section and reconfigure the Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel Guide for your viewing pleasure. Since GTA: Vice City is already out, it would be a bit silly to bring that feature back, although I might consider doing a GTA3 vs. GTA: VC sometime in the near future. Also, the gargantuan Super Smash Brothers Advanced Tactics guide is nearing completion. I've already described each level and most of the characters and items; a safe estimate would be 80% complete. It might have to wait until a few updates from now.

Besides re-opening the Games section, I'm also going to be bringing back Rants. While that section never got any love, rest assured it will get some delicious content soon enough. As the first semester of my college career winds down, nerves are starting to be stretched thin. Tension, angst, and aggravation are the three prime ingredients for some entertaining rants, let me tell you. In the midterm if you want to vent as well, feel free to send your rants via email to this address. Just put the actual rant in the body of the email, and "Rant" somewhere in the subject line and it'll get posted next update.

That's pretty much everything. If you have a moment, be sure to check out the news about the upcoming SimCity 4 game, which promises to be very, very cool.

Much, much better . . .

If you have yet to notice, please direct your attention to the navigation bar to left and take notice of the two new sections, Games and Rants. Games is the first area of interest, and it has basically remained unchanged from earlier Razor Witt incarnations. Gaming news, features, guides, reviews, and so forth will be kept in there. For your viewing pleasure, I currently have the Fallout Tactics guide up and running, including a somewhat "printer friendly" text version. I mention "somewhat" due to the fact that it is twelve pages long. Anyway, you can expect the Super Smash Brothers guide to appear in the not-so-distant future, it being about 85% done at this point.

The second newly re-opened area is Rants. While Rants never had any new content during the trial version of Razor Witt, I fully expect some rants to materialize as the weeks drag on. I know I mentioned a few updates ago that I wasn't going to open a section that had no content, but I have to make an exception here. Most notably, I have a color scheme going on here and so to add just one new section would mean I'd have to invert all the other button colors, which would just be ridiculous. Besides, I can't write a rant in the condition that I'm in at the moment (i.e. happy), so everyone is just better off at this point.

Two last points I need to address however: Thanksgiving Break and the new address. Thanksgiving Break starts pretty much tomorrow afternoon to us students at Wittenberg, and this means I'm going home to a house with no Internet connection or otherwise any access to the Wittenberg server. Thus, no updates whatsoever until at least next Monday (12/02). Second, you can now get to Razor Witt even quicker! The old address still works as usual, but you can also type in the following:

Hopefully this will allow my slacker friends to actually visit the site for once. In any event, that wraps up this update, and I wish good day, good luck, and good riddance. Christmas is only a month away . . .
