| Click-clack click-clack click-clack click-clack He ran swiftly under an enormous archway in the air into darkness, his legs moving by themselves, carrying him forward, rushing, to the unknown. Big grey geometrical shapes towered above, surrounding him, leaning towards and rushing past him and then a huge triangular opening in what seemed to be the sky, coming from nowhere, hurtled down towards him or he up towards it, while the "Thud! Thud! Thud!" thudded through and around him, internally and externally like the beat of an enormous heart. Through it he hurtled or it came and passed around him and he sank, his heart in his chest getting heavier and heavier, sinking in bright darkness but feeling lighter than air, his head spinning round dizzily, then realising that the rest of his body was whirling too and that he was standing on a sphere which was whirling also, spinning, whizzing, himself attached to the sphere, hard golden metal, which spun around and also orbited another bigger sphere which approached, also rotating, approaching him, both spheres crushing him in between them, grinding against him, but flaking off and falling tingling against him, making him itch, while he stood on a flat plane with golden crumbs falling around him like a snowstorm, but suddenly hardening, like hailstones and then rocks, falling in heaps around him while he stood there, enclosing him in a pile of stones, bruised and barely able to breathe. Then, poiuytrewq! He was hurled into the air as if flicked off a rug, rushing through the air, through a sort of tunnel or hole, which seemed horizontal and then seemed vertical as if a magnet pulled him towards the other end, assuming there was another end. Faster and faster he was pulled, the air whistling around him as he accelerated, other noises becoming louder and louder like rapidly approaching thunder. He seemed to see swiftly passing air vibrating in streaks of light and dark, then blurring together, and he could see nothing. He landed on a vast pink surface, and he was hardly even hurt after his swift fall. A little dazed, he picked himself up and walked along the rough slightly-curved plain, coming soon to a deep furrow which he crossed, and then went on his way, soon coming to another furrow which moved a little as he walked down it and up the other side. Then he realised. It was just like an enormous forehead. And when he strained his eyes into the distance behind him he saw a vast jungle of thick bushy hair. Ahead of him, in the distance, he saw two hollows and a huge hill in between them. Before the hollows were, he could just make out, some big eyebrows - the hollows must be eyes. And then he knew for certain - he could see the gigantic eyelids close swiftly over the two holes where there must be eyes. His heart beating with fear, he began to run, uncontrollably, thinking of the huge giant who perhaps couldn't even feel the human being on his forehead. Then he put himself in the position of the monster, and imagined what it would feel like to have a minute creature running down his own forehead. Then he knew it - there really was a tiny creature running towards his eyes. Continuing to run, he found he had passed between an eye and the nose, and was near the mouth, which opened, the opposite lip disappearing in the distance. At the same time his own mouth opened and he felt something like an insect drop into it, just as he himself dropped into the mammoth pit. He landed at the top of the throat, and realised the terrible truth - he was inside himself. "I am inside myself!" And all went dark. A hollow voice from all around said slowly, "You have entered!" Behind him he saw a huge triangular opening fading into the distance, hearing the voice boom out louder this time - "You have entered!" Yes. He had entered. |
