Religious Relativity and Christianity's Unique Claims - The Evidence
Religious Pluralism
Religious Pluralism in a nutshell says this: "many roads, one God. One mountain, many ways."
But what if there is only one mountain to God? What if there is only one way to know God?
Christianity's Claims
Christianity is a faith rooted in history. Granted, there is much truth and wisdom in other religious beliefs, but ultimately, they only represent human being's best efforts to search for the Truth.
Christianity alone dares to claim that an unique, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God, came into this world as a human. Dying a criminal's death for us, for our salvation. Putting his seal on this fact by rising from the dead.
Christians are simply poor fools who've seen a great light. They are not more clever, wiser or deserving than anyone else.
The Bible tells us that the Lord Jesus Christ is the light of this world. A divine light shining through the dark clouds.
The historical evidence
Some people question whether he did exist. The evidence that he did is overwhelming. Subsequent secular testimonies prove that Jesus Christ was a simple carpenter born into a farflung outpost of the Roman Empire. He created quite a stir. Two Roman writers mention Jesus Christ.
- Pliny the Younger
A Roman Governor who wrote to the Emperor in AD 112, complaining about Christian's meeting regularly to sing hymns to Christ.
- Cornelius Tacitus
A prominent historian of his time, who wrote, "the name Christian comes from Christ who was executed....in Jerusalem....source of the disease, spread to Rome, where all the shameful and diseased things find a home."
Further evidence
The Jewish historian, Josephus wrote an account in the first century of the death of Christ, and impact on the growth of Christianity.
"and there rose about this time, a wise man. He won over many Jews and also many Greeks. He was the Christ. When Pilate had condemned Him, by the instigation of our own authorities, those who were with him, loved him to the end."
2000 years later, we still talk about him. Over half the world's population claim some sort of faith in him. So there must be something about Him.
But can we be sure of what he said and did? Can the bible be trusted?
