ANTARCTICA - JOURNEY TO THE ICE

Rumdoodle Peak, Ice Plateau, East Antarctica

My, but what a big Peak you have...

The mighty Rumdoodle Peak is in the North Masson Range, about 22 kilometres due south of Mawson Station. In the photo above you can just make out the Hagglunds (blue) below the peak, and just to the right of the Hagg lies Rumdoodle Hut (green).
The photo below is a refrozen melt lake just behind Rumdoodle Hut. In summer the sun beats down on the dark brown rock of the mountains, melting the snow and ice that lies on them. The melt streams trickle into pools at the base of the mountains and are the most beautiful shade of deep blue.
