ANTARCTICA - JOURNEY TO THE ICE

Taylor Glacier, East Antarctica

Old Ice.

The Taylor Glacier is a huge chunk of solid ice that is slowly creeping down from the continent into the sea. The top two images are of the glacier edge over land next to the Taylor Rookery. The second image clearly illustrates the intense pressure that the shear weight of the ice puts on itself, as it buckles and twists its way to the ocean. The bottom image is of me standing on the sea ice in front of the glacier edge, where it calves into the ocean periodically.
