The hill behind Colebeck hut is high enough to permit VHF communications back to Mawson Station, some 80km distant. Field parties always 'check in' each night with the station as a safety measure. As you can see below, the view from the top of the hill makes it well worth the climb too. It is rare indeed to be able to look into the top of an iceberg.
