| The door closing behind her seemed so final. What had just occured with her boyfriend of six years ran through her head. She'd gone to his house to deliver his birthday present and to take him to dinner to celebrate, as she had every year since she'd met him. She hadn't expected what happened when she arrived. Her best friend Catherine had answered her knock, greeting her with the usual "Heya Tammy! How's it hangin girlfriend?" That hadn't alarmed her, although looking back on it now she should have been suspicious about Cathering being there on the day that had always been just between Tammy and her boyfriend. Tammy had konwn there would be a logical explanation and hadn't worried about it. She trusted her boyfriend, as well as her best friend, so no suspicions entered her mind. It wasn't until stepping into the kitchen where Daniel was that she started to feel some alarm. Daniel looked like he had swallowed something that didn't agree very much with him. he nervously avoided meeting her eye. Without saying a word Tammy set downt he perfectly wrapped gift on the kitchen counter, crossed her arms, and glanced uqickly from Daniel to Catherine, waiting to hear what they would say. The slightest nagging of suspicion started to cross Tammy's mind, but she shoved it away. "What's going on?" Tammy finally asked. Daniel turned and yanked open the fridge. He grabbed out a beer and downed it in one quick drink. "Well?" Tammy demanded. "you want to tell me so we can get on with your birthday?" Daniel shrugged, glancing nervously from Catherine to Tammy. 'It's actually rather simple Tammy," Catherine said, stepping over to stand next to Daniel. "It's not something that either of us meant to happen. However it did happen, and for the past couple years we've been trying to decide what it means." "I don't understnad. What what means?" Tammy had asked. Looking back on it now she knew she'd been too trusting. She'd beens o stupid not to see it before. We've been seeing each other now for a couple years Tammy," Daniel said, finally finding his voice. "And we decided last week that today would be the day to tell you. Like she said, we didn't mean for it to happen, it just did, and, well, we would like to pursue it openly." Tammy just stood there, gaping stupidly at them, unable to understand what they had just told her. "So," Catherine took up. "I guess, while neither of us wants to hurt you, cause we both love you dearly, what we mean is that we're together now, and unfortunately there isn't a place for you in this equation." Two tears moved down Tammy's face, but still she said nothing. She couldn't believe what she was being told. Catherine moved over to Tammy, opening her arms as if to enfold her in a hug. Tammy stepped back, shaking her head. She couldn't find any words. She came to the realization that if she tried to speak she would lose control of herself. She turned, went throught he living rooma nd out the door, letting it close behind her. That scene kept running through her head. The tears were almost impossible to hold back. She ran, not caring where she went, just trying to outrun the tears. She failed. Finding herself in a small park she vaguely recognized, she collapsed in the shade of a tree and wept. She wept till she ran dry, and then just lay there. New, alarming thoughts came through her mind. Now able to trust her emotions to stay under control, sh rose to her feet. She walked slowly, feeling empty and sick. She couldn't make herself believe that her relationship was at an end after six wonderful years. They'd been discussing marriage. Why would he discuss marriage if he was seeing Catherine? Why would he discuss marriage if he was going to be leaving her to continue his relationship with Catherine? It didn't make sense "Ah well," She muttered to herself. "No point dwelling on it. It's said and done." She headed home. Once in her door automatic function took over. She hit the button on her answering machine. Catherine's voice issued from it, and Tammy hit the erase button. She settled in front of the television, but found herself unable to concentrate on whatever show was on. Thoughts kept repeating through her mind. It's over, you'll never hold him again, never be held by him again. Life will never be the same. No point to it anymore. These thoughts alarmed her at first, as she usually took great pleasure in life, and had never before considered ending hers. It's over, you['ll never hold him again, never be held by him again. Life will never be the same. No point to this anymore. These thoughts began to run into each other, gaining intensity and starting to overrun all other thoughts she had. She felt like screaming, and like crying; was both angry and sadder than she'd ever been in her life. She could make sense of nothing. How much time passed with these thoughts and feelings she wasn't sure. It could have been five minutes, it could have been five hours. Whatever amount of time passed, she was down to a single thought. End it! |
| Ok, this one i'm just kinda trying out to see how it works. I'm not sure how it will turn out, but I'm going to try to make it as realistic as possible, and to be honest i don't have much experience at all in writing realistic stuff. I've got my fingers crossed, and since I am just now writing this, feedback would be appreciated. TYVM |
