Kirt Tyson Scholarship Fund
Background
Potential applicants should note that the Kirt Tyson scholarship:
� Is merit-based
� Is awarded to students with a demonstrated financial need
� Is awarded to freshman who will begin matriculation in the Fall of 2007
� Is not renewable
� Is restricted to payment of tuition, room and board, books and fees
� Average approximately $500 per student per year
� Is awarded to Minority Students
� Is sent directly to the school
Students interested in applying for the Kirt Tyson Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
� A citizen of the United States of America,
� Full-time student pursuing a degree in any discipline at a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU )
� Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and community service with a high school GPA of not less than 3.0; a combined verbal/math score of 940 or more on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or a score of 21 or higher on the American College Testing (ACT) examination,
� Recommended by their high school as academically exceptional or outstanding in the creative and performing arts,
� Demonstrated financial need
How to Apply:
1. All applicants must be enrolled or accepted (or plan to enroll) at an HBCU.

3. Completed applications must be submitted along with the required attachments to Attn: Kirt Tyson Scholarship, 2024 Wells Manor Avenue Baltimore, MD 21207 (see list of application forms and required attachments below)
4. Applicants should consult their schools concerning the selection process
5. Applications must be postmarked by May 11, 2007.

2007/2008 Kirt Tyson Scholarship
APPLICATION FORM
The Kirt Tyson Scholarship helps support the college educations of minority students, traditionally underrepresented in the professional realm, such as Hispanic, Native American, and Black/African American students. All minority students who will be entering their freshman year of college in the fall of 2007 are eligible to apply.
The application, including all supporting materials, must be postmarked by 11 MAY 2007. The award amount is for $500.00 which will be sent directly to the
Historically Black College and University (HBCU) you will be attending in the fall. The announcement of winners is expected to be made in early June 2007.
Please note that all eight sections must be completed and all supporting materials enclosed in order for your application to be considered.

Enclose a recent official transcript showing courses and grades for the past three years and a copy of your SAT scores. If you have not taken the
SAT exam, enclose the scores of any similar national test (such as ACT) you have taken.
3. Recommendation. Have one of your teachers or guidance counselors write a letter of recommendation supporting your application on school stationery, seal it in an envelope for confidentiality, and enclose it with your application. You do not need to send a copy of this letter.
4. Colleges/Universities and Anticipated Course of Study. List the colleges and/or universities to which you have been accepted, and your anticipated course of study.

5. Essay: Write a short essay (approximately 500 words) on the following theme and enclose it with your application. Half of the application evaluation will be based on this essay.
