Lost Hymn
What was going through your mind
When the god for your side was designed?
Did he softly whisper kill?
Or are you simply ill?
You lead a battered flock of sheep
Who follow you on every leap
Where will you lead the herd?
Youve made up every word
Distract the eyes
From your blood-stained fingers
With the cross strung round your neck
Bend him, twist her, lock the cage
Hide the love with fists of rage
Hear what you want to hear
Fear what you want to fear
Refuse to see eye to eye
Discordance is a battle cry
Diversitys a threat
Congruence will protect
Distract the eyes
From your blood-stained fingers
With the cross strung round your neck
Chorus:
God is dying, does anyone care?
Not as long as
We are flying high up in the air
And they are all below
Religion
Its not a weapon its a treaty
Religion
Should not destroy but feed the needy
Ive been around long enough
To know Gods not a
Bomb droppin, gun totin,
Nationalistic, homophobic,
Sexist, bigoted, bible chokin
Angry punishing, slave ownin
Fiend
That you make him out to be
Religion
Its not a weapon its a treaty
Religion
Should not destroy but feed the needy
Chorus
End
To avoid any sort of misinterpretation, let me get a few things straight. This song is not an atheist song, I am not an atheist, I dont encourage atheism. This song simply questions the people who use religion as a reason to attack people, believe they are superior, or take away the rights of people. George W. Bush believes God is on Americas side. God probably does not want terrorism, but I dont believe God chooses sides in a war. America is not innocent in this war. God is on humanitys side, and is therefore against war altogether. I was very very tentative to use these lyrics as a song but this is something I feel strongly about and I have decided its a message I want to express. People have lost sight of the soul purpose of religion. Religions purpose is to teach us how to love. People lose sight of the purpose of Jesus. There is too much talk about who believes and who doesnt, whos saved and whos going to hell, that no one pays any attention to the teachings of Jesus. Whether the stories of him are true or not has nothing to do with the lessons that are taught in the bible. Im focusing on Christianity right now because thats the religion Im most familiar with. Regardless of your religion, you need to pay attention do its positive messages and let it help you unite us rather than drive us all apart. The key teachings in all of the major religions are identical. I think its about time people figure this out.
