A Book of Shadows ore more simply put, BOS, is a book that Wiccans and Witches make to hold their rituals, spells, dreams, chants, recipies, thoughts and ideas into. The book is usually only viewed by the maker, or if they are part of a Coven, then they may share it with The High Prist or Pristess or the other members of the Coven.
I have made my own Book of Shadows by using an Sketch Book with a plain black cover and I decorated it with ribons, jewls, sequins and other decorations to make it beautiful. Inside has my spells that I have made, rituals that I have preformed, recipies that I have done on a certain Sabbat, Ideas, thoughts, symmbols and other things that I hold dear from my religion.
No one has to read it other then you. You can put a book blessing on your Book of Shadows (Spells below) and that would protect it. You don't always have to have your Book of Shadows in an authentic looking book, many modern day witches and Wiccans have their Book of Shadows on the Internet, or in a three ring binder with loose leaf paper. It's up to you.
