A constant urge to learn and explore, an ambition to become a researcher, a desire to be a part of growing technological world and contribute to its development have led me to study engineering. I was pleasantly surprised when my final year project in my bachelor’s degree “Preparation and Testing of Areca Reinforced Plastic Composites” not only yielded a new composite material with better mechanical properties but also, helped the local farmers socio-economically and environmentally. It was during this time I decided that academic research is what I want to do for a living. With this enthusiasm and vigour I took up a master’s degree course in Mechatronics at Newcastle University, UK.

I benefited tremendously from my painstaking work on many research projects such as design of an intelligent robotic weeder, design of interactive surface using shape memory alloys, etc in this course.

Now I am privileged to be working for a PhD project for two reasons. Firstly my supervisors possess unique expertise and my centre enjoys a global reputation of being the one of the best magnetic centres in Europe. Secondly, my project has a great potential for a commercial success and a break through in magnetic refrigeration in the near future. My passion for my project has already yielded me several publications in reputed international journals and many conference presentations. My presentations at international conferences have helped me to collaborate my work with different researchers at different universities all over the world and I have been awarded the “Best Student Poster Presentation” at Soft Magnetic Materials Conference in September 2007.

My confidence and my passion have created a milestone in my research and I would like to take a step further in my career by applying for a research and development job at the one of the leading technological and Energy Company that will allow me to concentrate and realize the full potential of my long term goals.
