X-Files:Alien Abductions, the Universe and Everything

Warnings, Disclaimers and Acknowledgements:X-Files doesn't belong to me. Mulder or Scully aren't mine. Most of the other characters are mine.

Yeah I wrote this one a while ago too. It's all good. I think it's actually not bad for the age I was when I wrote it (15). It's not as funny as the Sailor Moon stories or as disturbing as the Deep Space 9 story. This I guess was my middle ground. It's not finished. I doubt it will be too. It might be, ya never know.

So, without further babble, here's the story.

Prologue

Ross Residience
Sacramento, CA.
Febuary 21,1996.
3:17 AM.

Adrianna Ross curled up in bed next to her husband. Still, she couldn't sleep. Yawning again, she put on her robe and went down to the kitchen to warm some milk.

As she poured milk into a pan, she noticed the trembling, shaking motion of the very earth she stood on. She didn't live near the train tracks, but at after 3 AM that didn't quite register. It only began to come across Adrianna's tired mind when a bright light; brighter than anything she'd ever seen in her life; flashed across the windows in the sunroom.

A scream stuck in her paralyzed throat as she 'floated' toward the light. Then everything went dark...

Chapter 1

FBI Academy,
Quantico, MD.
February 25, 1996.
8:29 pm.

Gina Firley and Amy Pratt ran around the courtyard of the FBI Academy, laughing with snowballs in hand.

"Happy Birthday, Dana!" Gina laughed and threw a snowball at her friend, Dana Scully. Dana shrieked as the snowball hit her squarely on the back.

"Thanks, and happy graduation, brats!" Dana threw two snowballs, one after another, at each of the new agents.

"Okay, okay. I call a truce. I've lost feeling in my fingers." Gina called as two snowballs; one from Dana, one from Amy; hit her in the face.

"If you can't feel your fingers, stop whining," Amy said.

"That's not the problem. Since I can't feel my fingers, my aim isn't very good." Gina explained, dodging a snowball.

"Oh fine, you baby. I can't believe they let wimps like you into the FBI." Dana joked. She noticed too, that she couldn't feel the fabric of her sweater beneath her fingers. Walking to the housing at the north end of the Academy, the new agents joked about what detail of the FBI they might get stuck in.

"Tax fraud, definatly." Amy said.

"No way. That's where Kevin wound up." Gina replied.

"Seriously? I feel sorry for him."

"Don't-he doesn't deserve it."

"True." After a moment, Amy looked around. "Gina, do you know where we are?"

"Umm, Dana, do you remember the Academy from when you went here?"

"Well, gee. It's been a while, and it's changed a lot since I left. But yes-I think I do remember the way back to the dorms...You two...How are you guys ever going to be able to handle the X-Files?" Upon realising what she said, Dana bit her tongue, hard.

"What?!" Gina exclaimed.

"I'm not going to ask if you just said what I think you just said because I know it's what you just said." Amy said. (War of the Coprohages)

"I didn't say anything, or if I did you didn't hear it." Dana back-pedalled.

"Come on, play it straight with your friends. You got us into the FBI in the first place. They'd never hire a couple of dual citizens who have lived in Canada for 90% of their lives." Gina said.

"And it's a federal offence to lie to a federal agent." Amy included.

"Okay, I'll tell you but you can't tell anyone and you have to act surprised. I wasn't supposed to say anything."

Both of the eager, new agents nodded their heads enthusiastically.

"Okay, Mulder and I are swamped. We need someone else to handle a few cases. I pulled some strings with AD Skinner and that 'someone else' has wound up being you two." Gina and Amy shrieked and hugged Dana, then each other. "Just don't disappoint me, you two."

"We won't." Amy and Gina said in unison as they hugged each other again.

Later that night, back in the dorm Amy and Gina invited over a few friends. Still cold from the long walk and all the detours they took back to the dorm, Dana, Amy and Gina huddled around a portable heater as they played Scrabble with Kim and Dawn.

RING!! RING!!

Everyone picked up their cellular phone, except for Dawn, who picked up the cordless phone sitting on the table. It turned out to be Amy's phone.

"Hi!" Amy said happily. After a moment Amy said, "Shawn, wait a sec, okay?" Amy locked herself in the bathrooom-the only even 'semi-private' room in the small apartment.

Five minutes later, Amy came out of the bathroom as white as a sheet.

"Wuz' up?" Gina asked.

"Nothing," Amy replied monotonly.

"As if..." Gina shot back.

"It's nearly midnight, I'm tired. I don't mean to be rude or anything, but would you guys all leave?"

Dana, Dawn, and Kim looked at each other, then at Gina, then at Amy. Slowly everyone collected their things and left with a few unfeeling pleasantries said and a 'Happy Birthday' to Dana. After everyone left, Gina looked at Amy.

"What was that all about?" Gina asked.

"Adrianna's disappeared. Shawn says it's aliens."

Suddenly Gina had a flashback to a lazy summer's night, playfully looking at each other's necks to check for alien implants, as suggested by a movie they had gone to go see. Adrianna and she had them. It psyched both of them out-but only on the same level a horror movie would. Years later it was generally forgotten-but now ... Gina's thoughts trailed off.

"We have to find her!" Gina finally exclaimed. Amy only gave Gina a faraway look and went into her bedroom.

After a moment, Gina picked up her cellular.

"Dana? Can you help us get a case?..."

FBI ACADEMY.
Quantico, MD
Feburary 26, 1996.
11:17 am

The next day when Gina woke up, Amy already left for their new office, probably to start filing the 302 for Adrianna 's case; Dana too, was 302-ing this case to pass down to them.

Yawning, Gina got ready for the day and was off to the J. Edgar Hoover Building just as the numbers on the stereo system in her new Camaro flashed 12:00 PM.

Gina entered the building through the front door. Listening to tour guides and the babble of new agents, Gina stepped through the metal detector. (The Blessing Way)

BEEP!!

"Are you carrying your weapon?" the guard asked.

"No, I didn't even put on any jewellery today."

"Okay, let me run the wand over you." Picking up the wand, the guard went over her trunk, down one leg, up the other and over her head. Near the back of her neck, the wand whined. Looking at her quizzically, the guard droppedher keys, badge, and gun intoher hands and muttered "I didn't see that." as he urged her onward.

"Oh, Agent Firley, Assistant Director Skinner wants to see you as soon as possible," the guard called as she walked away.

Gina arrived at AD Skinner's office nearly 10 minutes later though it wasn't nearly that far away. Now she saw why the FBI Building was dubbed the 'puzzle palace'.

As soon as she entered the office Skinner ushered her into his office. Closing the door behind him, he motioned for her to sit down next to Amy, who was already there.

"Agent Firley, I trust you know Agent Pratt."

"Yes sir."

"You two have been assigned to work together as a second team for the X-Files. Agents' Mulder and Scully's offices are downstairs; there's an extra office beside theirs for you. Agent Pratt, I'm putting you in charge of writing regular reports to me concerning your work. Any questions?" Amy and Gina looked at each other and then at Skinner and said 'no' simutaneously. "Then you're dismissed."

Amy and Gina walked out of Skinner's office. Passing them, on his way into the office was an ordinary-looking man smoking a cigarette the same way one would smoke a joint, with his index finger and thumb. Looking at them quickly, without a second glance he opened the door and went into the office. (X. Marks the Spot) Gina and Amy looked at each other and raised their eyebrows. After making a cigarette-puffing gesture, an inside sign for Loser, Gina laughed. Amy too laughed as she caught the double meaning.

"You left early today, Amy." Gina tried to make conversation.

"Yeah-I went for a walk. Went to go see the stars."

"Looking for UFO's?"

Amy nodded, "And Dawnnie."

Gina nodded and whined like 'oh Amy', and gave Amy a quick hug, which was common among their circle of friends.

"On the way in the metal detector beeped at me," Gina tried to change the subject.

"Really?" Amy was semi-interrested, "how did you get in then?"

"The wand beeped here," Gina touched the back of her neck, "and the guard decided it wasn't a weapon and said 'I didn't see that'."

"Stand still for a sec." Amy looked at the back of Gina's neck. "You've got a small scar there and something just under the skin surface. Some buckshot or something?"

"Amy, I've had it since I was 15, remember? You actually found it. Remember now?"

"Oh yeah. Dawnnie had one too, right?"

"Yeah."

Amy cursed under her breath and got in the elevator, leaving Gina scrambling to catch up.

"Well, I guess it has potential." Gina said, looking at the bare cement walls. I'll bring in some posters; put a fern in that corner. A whiteboard there, I guess. We can make this work."

"How dismal," Amy sighed, "it looks like a tomb." (Goblins)

"Lighten up. We can make this work. Try to envision it." Gina smiled and made a funny face, only mustering a wan smile from Amy. Inside though, both girls were crying; Amy because of the loss of her friend and the uncertaintyof the future; and Gina because of the sense of impending doom she was trying to hide and the changes in her partner and friend.

...

Adrianna's blue eyes snapped open. 'Where am I?" she thought. She was aware of everything around her-the shiny blue sheet over her naked body, the cool metal examination table she was laid on, and the three other people in the examination room with her.

Yawning, a tiredness she hadn't felt before overtook her and she fell asleep again.

Annapolis, MD.
March 1, 1996.
11:45 PM.

"Well, the party is a success. Everyone seems to enjoy themselves. Even the Lone Gunmen look like they're having fun, and they are no where near a computer." Dana commented as she looked around the newly christened apartment.Everyone nodded. Well, everyone minus Szenas, Gina's freelance writer/director/producer out of Hollywood who'd been able to drop by for a few hours while on a business trip to Baltimore (he was moving in at the end of June).

"Even more so once we kicked Marie and Kevin out." Amy replied. Kim, Dawn, Farah, Jana, Amy, and Gina made a cigarette-puffing gesture.

"Yeah, they were sending out bad vibes." Gina commented.

"What this? 'Vibes?'" Dana questioned.

"The new age thing. I'm trying to get in-tune with my inner-self and Mother Earth. Trying to find the light," Gina answered. (One Breath) In the corner, Mulder laughed. "And you've got bad vibes too." Gina informed Mulder.

"He's not bad enough to class him with Kevin and Marie. I'd take that as an insult," Amy defended Mulder, "On the other hand, heis ridiculing our set of beliefs. Probably because it has nothing to do with lights in the sky." Scully smirked under her hand and waited for a reaction. Poor Fox Mulder looked as if he'd just been slapped across the face. "That's okay, we like you anyway." Amy half-heartedly tried to mend Mulder's injured convictions. Seeing it wasn't meant as an attack on his religion but just as a defence of theirs; he made a face at them.

There was silence for a while, apart from Dana's humming to the music the DJ put on. Mulder was introspective about his 'religion'. Amy and Gina both touched the tear-drop shaped crystals that hung from their necks. To them, the 'religion' was almost all that they had left of their friend who had disappeared without a trace. Putting on a fake smile, they joined in on the conversation again.

"Where did this," Dana made the cigarette gesture, "come from?" She had to distract herself from the memories of her sister and the silence was becoming distracting.

All the girls looked at each other and laughed. "Well, there was this one guy who was the biggest loser and he smoked. Did you ever notice that whenever someone holds a cigarette," Amy demonstrated, "it makes the shape of an L? I don't know, I guess that's where it originates from."

"Oh." The mood was lighter now but as it was, Dana excused herself to the bathroom. Since something was wrong, Amy and Gina followed her, and left the other girls to carry on the conversation.

KNOCK! KNOCK!

"Dana, Dana. Are you okay?" Gina knocked through the bathroom door.

"Yeah, fine." They heard the water go on.

"Let us in." Amy told her.

"Get lost."

"Not a chance. What's the matter?"

"Go away."

"Don't make us kick in this door, please. It's a new apartment." Gina pleaded.

The door opened and Amy and Gina entered. Dana was sprinkling water onto her face. Amy came up behind her.

"You're hiding something from us, something we should know."

"No, it's nothing."

Gina came up on the other side of her, "Look, you can tell me. Please, as your friend." (The Blessing Way)

At that comment Dana looked at her in a way she'd never seen, as if she was someone else. "Melissa all over again."

"What on earth are you talking about?" Gina asked.

"You two are just so much like her, it's amazing. Mom always said I am so much like her. Now I know what she means."

"Dana, you're talking in riddles. I've never seen you like this-it's really psyching me out."

"Melissa, my sister, God rest her soul. She was so much like you two, I can't believe it." Dropping her voice to a tone that was barely audible she said, "She died for me."

"Dana?"

"A guy named Louis Decarte shot her when she came into my apartment, left the gun at the scene and left the country. He thought she was me... No more 'vibes' stuff, okay? I can't deal with it." Gina and Amy just nodded astonished at the secret their friend was hiding. They both tucked their crystals under their shirts.

After a minute or so Dana smiled and turned to her friends, "Let's go back to the party."

The girls simply nodded and followed their friend into the front room.

"Well, that went over well." Gina sighed as she picked up more dishes.

"Yeah, we're so lucky to have been able to get an apartment in the same building as you, Dana." Amy commented.

"Yeah, it'll be nice to have you guys living so close." Dana said.

"Now we just need to get Mulder to move in here too." Amy playfully adverted her gaze to Mulder, who was daydreaming while looking out into the starry night.

"Wha--?" Mulder came back to Earth.

"It's past his bedtime," Gina uttered.

"No, not really. It's only what? 2:30?"

"Geez, it's past my bedtime."

Everyone laughed good-heartedly. A lazy silence followed, apart from Dana's humming to the radio. Amy and Gina wondered what she was thinking about. Suddenly the radio signal broke up and the cordless started ringing. Dana picked it up. Gina hoped it was Szenas calling her to say goodnight.

"Hello?" The line was dead but the phone was still ringing. "What the...?"

Bright light strained in through the cracks in the door's hinges. Amy tried to call 911 on her cell, which wouldn't send the signal. Gina and Mulder, as trigger happy as ever, pulled out their guns and simultaneously shouted,"Federal Agents, FREEZE!!"

Gina dropped her gun, causing a wild shot, as she began to levitate.

The door burst open to reveal a silhouetted figure with a big head bathed in light. A chilling scream was ripped from Gina's throat as she drifted toward the open door. Then everything went dark...

...

Adrianna grabbed the base of her neck where the implant was and screamed. A tall figure passed by the room she'd been put in.

"What's happening? What are you doing to my friends?" she shrieked. Somehow she justknew something was happening to her friends. The figure simply stood there.

"Tell me!! What's happening?"

He stood there for a second, then looked at her. As he reached out toward her, she instinctively gasped and moved back. The shadowy fingers brushed across the teardrop shaped crystal that hung from her neck and walked away. Touching her crystal as if to reassure herself of its presence, she fell to her knees as she understood...

Chapter 2

3170 w. 53 rd. #11
Annapolis, MD.
March 2, 1996.
7:28 am.

The morning light filtered in through the curtains, onto Dana Scully's copper hair. Moaning, she slowly opened her eyes. Swearing as she sat up she tried to remember whose house she was in, why she was there and what happened.

Terror rose into her throat as she remembered the light and that awful silhouetted figure. Looking around the apartment frantically she wondered whose furniture was in her apartment. Amongst what must have been several sets of dishes and a few bags of garbage was a standard FBI issue Smith and Wesson 1076 gun, a set of credentials and a silk sunflower that looked vaguely familiar.

Crawling woozily over to the gun and badge, Scully squinted her eyes to read who's they were. Special Agent Gina Rebecca Firley. Slowly, Dana pieced together the events of the last 24 or so hours. The party, the light...

Noticing two people on the other side of the room she stumbled over to them and shook Amy, then Mulder, checking for a pulse each time. "Wake up." Dana's voice was hoarse. Only raising a moan from Amy and not even that much from Mulder she began to look for a phone.

Upon realising it was still in her hand and wouldn't be of much use as it was smashed and didn't register a dialtone, she began to look for her cellular in her pockets. Remembering it was upstairs in her own apartment; she cursed. Looking through Mulder'spockets she found his.

"911 Emergency. How can I help you?" An operator answered.

"Uh, I'm FBI Agent Dana Scully. Um, I need an ambulance to #11-3170 W. 53 Rd. for myself and, uh, two of my colleagues, 'kay?"

"Certainly, Agent Scully."

Beep! Dana hung up the phone and laid down again to try to ease her spinning head. About ten or so minutes later she was roused by a paramedic.

"Are you okay? Can you tell me what happened?"

"Uh, I don't know, I forget."

"Okay, easy there. You look like you've had a rough day already," the paramedic said soothingly as he helped her up and to the ambulance.

Skinner looked distastefully at the man sitting on the other side of his desk. The smoke from his cigarette curled up and collected near the ceiling.

"The new team working on the X-Files are a threat," the enigmatic man said.

"To what?" Skinner replied shortly.

"I think you know."

"I don't think I do."

Cryptically, the Cancer Man looked away in annoyance at the Assistant Directors' constant denial of everything. "We'll just have to take care of them, won't we?"

"What?"

"You'll understand soon enough."

...

Gina woke up to find herself on an examination table. A thin sheet of metallic gauze-like material was draped over her naked body. Looking around, she noticed a couple of other people in the room with her.

"Gina," a familiar hushed voice came from the other side of her.

Looking over, she recognised Adrianna on the table next to her.

"Adrianna , is it really you? Am I dreaming? Am I dead?"

"No, it's really me. Whisper, they might not hear us," Adrianna breathed.

"Who's 'they'? Where are we?" Gina whispered.

Adrianna laughed. "We're no where, I'm just hallucinating, and it's funny you're having the same hallucination."

"Adrianna , I think they bust your brain."

"I'm serious. This has to be a hallucination. I don't know what I got tripped on but this is too weird to be real. See? Check this out, try to read my thoughts."

The words 'in tune', came across Gina's mind. 'see? this can't be real. it's too weird.'

Gina looked at her friend wide-eyed. "Adrianna this is weird," she said aloud. The clicking of footfall came nearer the room.

'oh crumb, they heard us. pretend to still be passed out.' Adrianna thought nervously. Gina laid down and waited for the presence to leave. After a moment or so, still afraid to open her eyes, Gina asked, 'are they gone yet?'.

'yeah, i think so. see? this CAN'T be real.'

'i don't know. this hallucination is pretty tangible.'

'i don't know. it's easier to think of as a twisted hallucination.'

'but what if...'
Gina's thoughts trailed off. 'when do i get my clothes back? when do i get to leave? who are these people? what do they look like? have we been abducted by aliens? is mulder's sister here? what are they going to do to me? when...'

'too many questions. i don't have any answers. but i know mulder would give a lot to have this kind of experience.'

Gina got up off the table at the mention of Mulder's name.

'where are you going?' Adrianna asked.

'to find samantha.'

'i'm coming.'

Amy awoke and groaned. Scully, who had figured Amy would wake first, had spent most of her time in Amy's room. She rushed over to Amy's bedside.

"Amy? Are you okay? Can you hear me?" Scully said gently.

"Five more minutes, mom."

Scully rolled her eyes. How typical, she thought. "Mulder's still sleeping like a baby."

"I always knew he was really a two-year-old." Amy muttered. "Where am I?"

"At the hospital, you fainted last night after the party. We all did."

"Okay. Where's Gina?"

"She's gone. No one knows what happened to her."

"Where is she?" Amy asked, now fully awake.

"Calm down, we're doing everything we can."

"What do you mean, she just disappeared?"

"No, we just don't know where she is." At that comment, Amy jumped off the bed and got her jacket. Feverishly, she searched her pockets for her phone. Scully passed her Mulder's, remembering that Amy's was still on the floor of her apartment. Dialing Gina's cell number, she threw the phone on the bed.

"It's been turned off. We have to find her." A sense of deja vu came to her at that last sentence, and a thought crossed her mind. "What if she's with Adrianna ? What is she's dead? What if they're both dead?"

Scully, who'd been patiently and calmly sitting to one side, took Amy's hand. "Calm down. I don't believe she's dead. She might be with Adrianna , but I think they're okay."

Amy sighed. "When can I leave?"

"Whenever you're ready. The paramedics couldn't find anything wrong with you."

"Okay. I'll meet up with you later." Amy quickly walked out of the room before Dana could say anything else. Helplessly, she went into Mulder's room to wait for his reaction.

Amy walked into Assistant Director Skinner's office heedlessly, not bothering to check in with the secretary, who equally made no comment. She had found it vain to try to keep any kind of order where anyone from the X-Files was concerned, except for Agent Scully on occasion.

"Sir, I need to talk to you." Amy announced. Skinner looked up at Agent Pratt's lithe figure, which was shaking from emotion.

"Yes?"

"About my partner."

"What about her?"

"Where is she?"

"What?"

"She's gone. Where is she?"

"Agent Pratt, I don't know what you're talking about. Why don't you collect your thoughts and talk to me later. You can make an appointment through Kimberly."

Amy realised she'd get no help from her superior and walked out the door without any good-byes. Skinner rubbed the bridge of his nose and looked away from the presence which had come out of the back room connected to his office. Finally he turned to him, and asked "what did you do to her?"

"In a world where the only currency is secrets, do you really think I'm going to tell you?" The cryptic man smiled.

Scully sat at Mulder's bedside now, patient as a priestess, waiting for his reaction to all that had happened. It probably hit as close to the depths of his soul as anyone else's. True, they all have had experiences with this seemingly recurring phenomenon in Dana Scully's life, but the abduction of his shadowy sister was, she was sure sometimes the only thing keeping him from falling into the depths of insanity. He stirred...

"Mulder? Mulder, it's me." Scully whispered. Mulder touched her hand.

"Scully. What happened?" Mulder asked.

"It doesn't matter."

"Scully, how can you say that? I remember a light, and Gina--she..." Dana put a long finger over his lips. Mulder bit back his words, but his eyes showed the feelings his partner couldn't bridle. Scully sat back.

"So what do we do now?" Scully asked, showing a deeper understanding of what she realized had really happened than Mulder had hoped to get from his analytical partner.

"I don't know, I gotta pee."

"Great." Scully replied sarcastically.

Amy drove back to her apartment after a couple of hours of aimlessly driving around downtown Washington. Driving upto the front of the complex, she noticed Scully and Mulder walking up the stairs. Scully was gently helping Mulder, who's legs were a bit shaky still. Quickly parking the car, she ran to catch up to them.

"Amy, I didn't expect to see you for a while yet," Dana smiled.

"Skinner's a seal in French." Amy grumbled. Both of the other Agents were taken aback by the comment.

"Why do you say that?" Scully asked.

"He doesn't know and doesn't care where Gina is. He won't help me find her." Amy complained.

"He's not that bad once you get to know him." Mulder said. His voice was slightly raspy.

"He's a French seal, who won't help a female dog like me." Amy whined. Once she said the word 'dog' Dana and Amy looked at each other. Amy cursed, and ran for Scully's apartment. Scully too, urged Mulder a bit quicker. Upon getting to her apartment she met Amy at the door.

"I don't have a key." she shrugged.

Scully let them in and rushed to the bathroom. A Schipperchee, a Pomeranian and a white miniature poodle looked up from their 'projects'.

Angel, Gina's poodle, chewed happily on Scully's shampoo bottle-which was nearly empty. Most of it's contents were on the bathmat and the tile floor.

Yojo, Scully's new Schipperchee, had managed to tip over the towel rack and was perched on top of it as if it were a castle and he was the king of it.

Casey, Amy's pom, had shredded the latest issue of Newsweek, which was, at one point, on the towel rack. Little pieces of an interview with the President were scattered all over the bathroom.

Being mad, but only partially, (hey, they did go on the newspaper left on the floor for them) Amy and Dana collected their dogs. Angel ran around the apartment, not dropping the remnants of the shampoo bottle for anything, until Mulder picked her up begrudgenly. All three agents looked at each other and collectively sighed as they tried to decide weather to kill the dogs now or clean up the mess.

Dana yawned as Mulder flipped through the channels on the TV for what must've been the thirtieth time. Amy dozed in the armchair.

"Amy, wouldn't you be more comfortable in your apartment?" Scully asked. Amy hesataited.

"I don't want to sleep there."

"Well, I have an extra room. At least go downstairs to get your pyjamas and toothbrush." Scully urged in almost a motherly manner. Amy, shook her head and told them she was fine where she was. At that point, Scully didn't quite know what to do. She understood exactly how Amy felt.

Looking over to Mulder she received no inspiration on what to say. Mulder was still watching less than 30 seconds of any particular show, ignoring everything else-probably because he didn't want to get into a dispute.

Looking around her apartment and out the window, Scully had a flashback to her own puzzling abduction, being dragged unceremoniously out of that very window. She sighed, "I think I have an extra night-shirt in my closet-just a sec and I'll get it." Amy, not quite comprehending what was going on, only looked at her sleepily.

3170 W. 53 Rd. #3
Annapolis, MD.
March 3, 1996.
4:15 am.

Dana hear a shrill scream. Looking up, she felt oddly calm as she saw a body levitating horizontally in the air. Somehow, it seemed as if she was watching it on a really bad episode of 'Unsolved Mysteries' on the TV, not that it was happening less than 10 feet from where she was sitting. Gradually, light filled the room until it was blinding. Then, as the light faded she realised she wasn't in her apartment reading anymore...

Looking around the sterile room, it seemed vaguely familiar but not like the government boxcar she'd previously thought she'd been taken to. The architecture was very soft, flowing and very monotone. Still oddly serene, she placed her hand on the metallic surface of the wall. Noting it was warm, like a flannel blanket on a December night, she dropped her hand by her side again. A gasp made her turn away from the curious walls.

In the dimly lit hallway was a girl who looked vaguely familiar backing away from a silhouetted figure. The shadowy fingers of the figure brushed across the shimmering prism which hung from a black ribbon around her neck.

The girl, tears running down her face, was backed right against the wall. The figure turned toward Scully and disappeared into a room further down the hall. The girl wilted like a flower once he was gone and touched her prism as tears ran down her cheeks.

Turning away from the situation, even though Dana wanted to console the girl, she was greeted by a figure standing less than a foot behind her. Its cold hand seized her wrist like a vice and Scully screamed...

...And Scully screamed. Her dog, who was playfully pawing at her trembling hand looked at her quizzically. A beat-up copy of Moby Dick was in her other hand, open to where she had started that night.

Putting her bookmark between the wrinkled, yellow pages, she got up to make herself a herbal tea.

Going out to the kitchen, she noticed Amy outside on the balcony, sipping warm water. Pouring what was left of the water into a mug and dropping a teabag into it, Scully quietly went out to the balcony. As the door closed, Mulder, who'd fallen asleep on Dana's couch rolled over.

"Amy, why are you out here?" Dana asked.

"Can't sleep. I had a nightmare," Amy answered.

"Want to tell me about it?"

"Not really, it's stupid. Just Adrianna getting abducted. Then she's with some guy in a hallway, or something. I can't quite remember. I couldn't see him right."

"And he touched her necklace then walked away."

Amy turned to look at Dana, "Yeah, how did you..?"

"Then you turned around and there's this person there and he grabs your wrist?"

"Yeah..."

"I had that dream too."

"Oh."

For a long while they sat in relative silence. Dana read, and Amy looked out at the surrounding apartment buildings and trees. After a while, the heavy blanket of silence became a but smothering. Amy spoke first.

"What book?"

"Moby Dick."

"Is that where you named Yojo from?"

"Yeah, Yojo is Queequeg's little idol."

"Cute."

There was another minute of silence.

"My father used to read to me from this book. He called me Starbuck, I called him Ahab."

"Oh. Now I see."

"See what?"

"Why you named your dog after a character in it."

"Well, how did you get the name Casey?"

"I don't know. He looked like a Casey."

At that a crash came from Scully's apartment. Rushing in, she soon realised it posed no threat. Mulder was simply dreaming again. Scully even knew what about. Amy on the other hand, was more concerned.

"Mulder, Mulder. Wake up, it's only a dream." Amy gently touched her fingertips to his forearm, causing him to start awake. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'm fine... Amy, Gina and Adrianna are not dead. They'll come back. They're planning to let them go adventually." Mulder stated. Scully and Pratt looked at him as if he'd just sprouted another head.

"What?" Amy asked again.

Skinner yawned as he walked around the parking lot for what must've been the tenth or so time. Someone had parked in his parking spot that morning, so, having to park somewhere else, he was now hopelessly lost. Thinking he might've parked on another level, he climbed up the stairs unenthusiastically. Out of the shadows stepped a man in a suit with greying hair who could've been mistaken for an FBI Agent.

"I think you parked on level C."

Skinner turned around to look at the shadowy character.

"Walk with me there." The man continued. At a loss, Skinner followed him. In the obscure lighting of the parking lot, he got very few good looks at the mystic man.

"Who are you?" Skinner finally asked.

"Who I am is not important. It's what I know."

"What? Who are you?"

"Deep Throat." The character mumbled. After a moment he spoke again. "What ever happens, stand behind the X-Files. Especially this new team. They aren't high-profile enough to have any protection yet. And don't think that Agent Firley's disappearance was a mistake. Agent Pratt will find a truth concerning her partner, perhaps not the one she wants, but it will be valuable to her, and to Agents Mulder and Scully."

"What? What is your interest in this? What do you want?"

"I don't want anything, I'm just a friend." And with that the elusive man walked away.

...

Gina carefully felt her way down the dimly lit hall with one hand. Gina's free hand clenched the metallic sheet around her naked body. Adrianna meekly followed behind her. A shadow played across the wall and the two girls instinctively ducked into one ofthe adjacent rooms and closed the door. The footfall approached and passed, yet in the distance more approaching steps were discernible. A tremble coursed through Gina's body.

The room was much like any other they'd seem. Out of the four tables, only three of them were occupied. Two men and a woman lay unconscious on the tables, covered only by silvery translucent sheets. Going to the nearest table, Gina looked down at its occupant. She judged his age to be at twenty years old. Looking vaguely like and old crush, a dagger of ice stabbed he heart. His pulse fluttered uncertainty and his skin felt icy beneath Gina's long fingers. His skin had a definite greyish tinge to it and his eyes looked set a bit far apart. Gina had a strange notion they weren't always like that. Gina suddenly gasped.

'adrianna, adrianna. look at this.'

Adrianna fell into place beside Gina and looked over her shoulder. Adrianna stared at him blankly. Gina carefully lifter his eyelid to reveal an inky black eye, there was no defined iris or white of his eye.

'he's just like the other two,' Adrianna thought vacantly. Gina turned to look at her.

'my gosh adrianna, what have they done?' At that moment two shadowy forms came up behind them and pinned their arms to their bodies. Adrianna squirmed to loosen the rough grip unsuccessfully, and Gina thrust her heel down on the figure's foot. Apparently feeling no pain, their captors took Adrianna and Gina back to the room they were in earlier. Going the other way, also escorted by a guard, was someone whom Gina and Adrianna just knew was Samantha. Opening her mouth to say something, Adrianna's captor clamped his hand over it.

'was it her?' Adrianna asked.

'yeah, think so.'

Still kicking and protesting, they managed to hook the girls up to some kind of machine without either girl getting a good look at their captors. Leaving the room, the girls looked at each other as the machine turned on. The blood intheir veins seemed toturn to acid. In a short amount of time, both girls fell into a tranquil sea of nothingness.

"There's one!" Mulder called.

"No, that's about the SIXTH plane we've seen tonight." Amy leaned against the windshield of her red '96 Ford Taurus.

"Well, what about that?" Mulder pointed, beside her, pointed up into the shimmering sea of twinkling stars.

"A satellite, dummy."

"I'm not dumb."

"Well, that's up for discussion, but you're sure hot!"

"That's gotta be the worst come-on line I've ever heard!"

Their faces drew close... And Amy pulled away. This was Mulder, Scully's partner and friend. She couldn't do this after all Scully's done for her.

"Um..."

Suddenly a light shone onto them from the bushes. A park warden stepped toward them. "Can I see some ID, please?" Both Amy and Mulder reached for their badges and credentials and handed them to the officer. "Are you on an investigation?"

"There were reports of UFO sightings in the area. Have you seen anything?" Mulder asked.

"No, I didn't know the FBI kept tabs on that type of thing."

"They don't. I do."

"Well, okay. Whatever. But I need you to move on. Look at them from your porch."

"Well, that just sucks." Amy commented once he ranger had left.

"We'd better get going." Amy and Mulder jumped into the car and drove away.

Amy looked into Mulder's handsome face and their faces drew near...

Ring! Ring! Amy's cell phone rang. Amy picked it up off of the floor and pressed the TALK button and exclaimed "Congratulations! You've just won a flight to nowhere!" And pitched the phone out the window as Scully's voice could be heard calling her name. Scully would understand...

"Amy? Amy!!! Mulder! AMY PRATT!!!" a very exasperated Scully screamed into her phone. In a moment of utter aggravation, Scully hung up the phone.

The next day, as Amy walked into her office she sighed. Being away from Mulder now was almost worse than some odd form of torture but Scully's feelings were something to be considered. And right now, Scully was mad.

"Amy?"

"Scully."

"Congratulations, you've just won a flight to nowhere..."

Amy blushed. So did Mulder who had silently entered the room behind Scully.

"Uh, don't ask-I was really stressed out with Szenas' and Gina's disappearances and all. What did you need?" Amy smiled sweetly. Mulder snuck off as quietly as he had come, trying to keep from laughing. Dana, after a moment of deciding what to do, turned on her heel and left in a mild tantrum. Amy nearly laughed out loud.

...

Gina awoke into the nothingness that was neither day or night. The implant on the back of her neck stung like heck and she slapped at it. Even though she had fallen asleep in Szenas' arms, she had still woke up on the same stupid metal table that she had woken up on for the past-how long had it been? Weeks? Months? Maybe even a year? Gina could only guess at how long she'd been in the place.

Exiting the room and wandering the halls, she soon ran into Szenas, who was looking rather disturbed.

"Gina!" He took her in his arms and clung to her tightly.

"Szenas, what's the matter?" Gina gave him a reassuring kiss. "You look so pale.

"I found my brother."

"Alec? Oh, I see. Where?"

"Come with me." He took her hand and lead her through a maze of halls, finally stopping at a non-descript looking door. It opened and they walked through. Laying on a table in the middle of the room was a guy with red-brown hair who would've looked very similar to Szenas had his skin not been a pasty grey. Around him were masses of wire, machines and fluid-filled tubes. Gina touched his head which was unnaturally cold. Suddenly two aliens came though the door. Gina felt a sharp pain in the back of her neck and black out.

Amy turned through the maze of blurry white halls and doors, finally walking through one. Spindly grey shadows moved and clustered around something on a table under and intense, bright light. She drew near the table, as an violent ringing sounded in her ears. Shaking her head as it to rid herself of the noise, she turned and caught a glimpse of the person on the table. She stepped closer and found herself looking into the face of her comatose husband...

Amy opened her eyes and sat up in bed, breathing hard. Beside her, Mulder was talking to someone on his cell. Trying reassure herself that it was just a dream, she put her arms around Mulder and laid her head on his bare shoulder. Hegot off the phone andkissed her.

"They found Adrianna," he told her, kissing her forehead and tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Scully's gone down to the hospital where she was found in Florida. She left us to take care of the paper work."

Dana Scully stood at the foot of Adrianna's hospital bed and reviewed her chart. Still, she couldn't concentrate. "Congratulations... You've just won a flight to nowhere..." Scully sighed. She had this unusual feeling she just couldn't place. Scully shookher head and smiled. Amy was just about as unpredictable with a phone as Mulder was. Giving the chart to a nurse, she left the room.

The cigarette smoke which seemed to habitually follow him, made the hall misty-perhaps to help create the certain aura of dark mystery he relished so much. Ho opened the door and looked st the men in the room evenly and cooly. One ofthem looked over his well-manicured fingernails for what must've been the millionth time.

"Too much has happened. You've let this whol thing get totally out of control." Another puff. "We must terminat this phase of the project once we have recovered the child."

"It's not a child," an overweight man with a nasal voice said.

"It is a 'creation.'" The word seemed to stick in the well-manicured man's throat. "You must remember that.

The man sitting in the corner smoking only smiled an awful, twisted smirk. "What? Do you get too attached to it? Now I can see why you got so upset over how the other one in J2896 didn't happen the way we planned. Don't worry-I'll take care of them from now on." He casually smashed out his cigarette and walked non-chalantly out of the room

...

The room was spinning again, or was it just Gina's head? No, it was the room...And she was beginning to get motion sick. "Szen..." she rasped weakly. Where was he? In the same thought Gina answered her own question...At Alec's bedside-where he'd been for the last...? Keeping track of time seemed inomportant. Right now Gina wanted to stop the room from spinning.

Having no food im her stomach, Gina dry-heaved until she was too tired to anymore. 'szen!' Gina thought with as much force as she could muster.

Within a matter of-minutes? Seconds?-Szenas was beside her, holding her in his arms until she stopped shaking. 'what's happening to me?' she thought weakly.

'i don't know, my love...i don't know.'
