BlackJack,
...what a good mule...
I acquired
BlackJack and Molly at the same time.
They were
my very first mules.
They were
for sale as a pair only, so I got both.
They were
underweight and needing a lot of TLC.
BlackJack
wasn't a very good riding mule at first.
He had a fear
when someone was on his back.
Perhaps he
had been beaten at some point in his mysterious past?
He didn't
quite understand the concept of "whoa",
and so that
was the first thing him and I got worked out.
As soon as
he decided I was worthy of being trusted,
he turned
into the best mule!
He was so
sweet, never pushy and brazen
like Molly
could be at times,
but more reserved,
a bit shy, but still a mule who loved attention...
As long as
it was from someone he trusted.

^^^
BlackJack was used primarily as a
pack mule before I got him.
I learned about packing from him...
However, mostly I rode him.

BlackJack
and I earned
ADMS's Miles
and Hours award in 1985...
he was written
up in the Spring '85 Brayer magazine for that.
He also had
other newspaper articles written about him,
including
one which pronounced him
"Play Mule
of the Month"
("Hitching
Post Column" Quesnel Caribou Observer, February '85).
