I bought Dixie "sight unseen".
She was bred by George France of
Peace River, Alberta.
George was passing through
in August 1986
and spent a day or two in Quesnel.
He was the President of the
Canadian Donkey and Mule Assoc.
at that time,
and I was the Registrar, (hence
our "connection").
When George was visiting me, he showed
me some photos
of some of his animals.
One of the subjects in his photos
was a little molly mule,
still with her dam. She was
un-named at that time,
and George wanted to sell her.
As I looked at the pictures, I asked
how much he wanted for her.
He told me a ridiculously low figure
and added
that he would deliver her from Peace
River, Alberta
for that price.
How could I refuse?
I paid him a small deposit and anxiously
awaited
my new little mule's arrival.
She arrived after a long day in the
trailer with her mother
(who was also going to a new home,
further south of Quesnel).
I worked hard to establish trust
with the baby mule...
she was a sensitive little creature.
I named her Dixie, since she was
from a
Tennessee Walking Horse mare.
I kept her till she was three...
then she was sold to her new owner
who lives near Barriere, BC.
