Linette's current Research:
An electronic readiness model for distance education (e-learning) in the Workplace.

The purpose of the research is to develop a model for the training of employees in distance education. It aims at improving current computer facilitated training practices in the workplace by setting operational guidelines for employees when planning an e-learning event.

By researching existing literature on the subject, known facts and research findings inherent to
distance education, learning and the use of electronic media for distance education delivery were explored. Aspects that influence the learning event in all three areas have been identified and integrated into an initial model, (2.58MB) designed to be used when an e-learning event for employees are planned. The model consists of criteria sorted under four dimensions namely - the human resource, technology, pedagogy and organisational dimension

A quantitative & qualitative research approach has been used to verify the criteria of the model. All criteria except for one have been accepted as essential for e-learning. The target group of this process consisted of members of a instructional technology forum.

A next phase involved refining the e-readines model and testing it with the input of a focus group.

Once the sub-elements have been verified an audit tool for each dimension has been designed as well as a questionnaire for the learners, facilitators and managers. The tool has been implemented and tested in an industrial work environment multimedia centre.

This research results have been reported and conclusions made (to be viewed in chapter 5 and 6 of the thesis).

Thank you.

The "Kaalvoet Vrou" (barefeet woman) is a monument next to my favourite hide away spot in the Drakensburg mountains. The monument tells the tale of the Afrikaner people who refused to live under the reign of the English government in Natal. A group of women swore they would rather move back over the mountains barefeet than to live under an English government.
My Favourite hide away - A lonely cabin called Dumbe in the Drakensburg mountains next to the Kaalvoetvrou monument.
