There are many types of rat food out there, and so you have no excuse for not feeding your rat good stuff. I use a Mazuri mix I can buy in bulk at our local ranc supply store, but if you don't have one of those, go to Pet Smart or Petco. The have shelves of mixes. Pick one that has NO BUGS (all grains and flours have bugs, but if you can see them, throw it out), is dry (no mold) and has many things in it. A good mix will have things like, but not limited to:
Sunflower seeds
Peanuts (in or out of shell)
Pumpkin seeds
Dryed carrots
Dryed Bannana's
Crushed corn
More seed types
Things that look like dog food
Things that look like rabbit food
I know thats not real clear, but it gives you an idea. Stay away from hampster food, and NEVER give rabbit food (rats will starve on rabbit food). Also be sure to supplament their diet with FRUITS and VEGI's. The darker the Vegi is, the better for a rat it is. Rats also enjoy pasta's, breads, chips, pretzles and cereals, but stay away from anything to sugary. Also, Rats LOVE yogert drops. So , if you want to get them a little treat, there you go. If you don't know what kind of friuts and vegi's to give, here are some idea's:
Bannana Peices
Apple peices
Orange peices
Dark lettuce (no iceberg, they can get diarria)
Brocli
Tomato
Watermelon
any melon peices
Squash
If there is anything there that is bad for rats, e-mail me right away, because thats what i feed!
