Here is some of the many things we rats do for kicks. If you're bored and a rat, then this page might give you some tips to have fun. If you're a human, take this to heart for your rat friends.

peanut butter balls. climbing on furniture. climbing up rope. climbing down blankets to get to the floor. burrowing under the covers. running along the walls. hiding in dresser drawers. getting stuck on the top shelf of the bookcase. storing more food behind the tv than can be ate. sleeping when convenient. getting all the treats you want. hooded sweatshirts. chewing EVERYthing! jumping out of cages. running from hands when they try to put you in a cage. wrestling with a buddy. grooming your room-mate. licking your human's hand. scaring prisses. wiggling your tail. CHEESE! dollhouses. chasing cats. marking your territory. riding on a shoulder. or the top of a head. marking the shoulder (lol). building a fort.

What we do:

eat sleep play learn

A seed mix, mostly as a base, then cooked pasta and fresh fruit and veggies.

We sleep throughout the day. Most of the day anyway. By nature, we are nocturnal, but usually wake for a couple hours around noon.

From the time we wake till we sleep, we are playing. It's the most important factor in our well-being.

Learning tricks and remembering scenery is a way us rats survive in the wild. Our human teaches us to keep fit by exercise.

Before you put anything in the recycling bin, ask yourself: "Could this make a cool rat toy?" You'd be suprised how much of our fortbuilding materials came from stuff that was just being thrown away. You may need to enlist the help of human though (those opposable thumbs can be really useful). Just start building, and remember, have fun.
