RASPATUL INTERVIEW

Here is a Raspatul interview that was done, but had no idea which magazine it was for...

Here it is anyway:

1.Name of band?

- We are a Death Thrash Metal band from Singapore called Raspatul. We have been around since 1996 and sad to say, we have only 2 official releases so far. We were featured in a couple of compilations over the world and the reviews we got were very positive. Raspatul is recently signed to Obskure Sombre Records from Canada and the release is a collection of our old recorded songs all the way until 2004. James Murphy (Death, Obituary, Testament, Disincarnate) will handle the mastering duties for this album and we are really very proud to have James get involved in this.

2.Who are your inspirations?

- Personally I draw inspirations from so many bands and musicians that it's really hard for me to single them out. But let me try to break it down to the bands and musicians that inspired me till this day since I was a kid. Testament, Pantera, Carcass, Morbid Angel are a few of the bands that I would forever be grateful for their existence. James Murphy, Dimebag Darrell, Akira Takasaki, Eddie Van Halen are a few of the guitar players that has kept me in awe till this day. So without all these inspirations, there would be no musical life for me.

3.Who do you tour with?

- Unfortunately, being a band in Singapore doesn't make us a touring band. The culture and lifestyle here doesn't really allow for such things to happen. Sure we can play a couple of Metal gigs over here like everybody else, and perhaps just a few shows around our neighboring countries, but that's about it. Also, even if we do have Metal gigs, the crowd turn-out is really bad sometimes and the people here don't really seem to sincerely support the local bands

4.How did you meet?

- I am not the original member of Raspatul. I got into the band in 2001, right after their guitar player quit and became a family man. The rest of the guys met each other at a very young age and it was only in their teens that they formed Raspatul. Nothing much was done during the initial years, and they also had lack of songs to materialized their dreams of recording an album. Right after I joined Raspatul, I was given a few weeks to learn all their songs and also step into the recording studio to record 'Menghiting Ajal', our milestone release. It has been a rush for me and I really enjoyed the recording process and of course, playing with the guys in Raspatul. I have known the rest of the guys in Raspatul very well before I join the band as an official member, so it wasn't a big pair of shoes to fill.

5. Who do you wish to tour with?

- I think I have answered this question in most of the interviews that I have done, and my answer will always be the same. Morbid fucking Angel without a doubt is definitely the band that shaped my life as a teenager, and I still have that same respect towards them till this day.

6. When did form the band?

- The band was actually formed in 1995, but the band had no name back then. So the band just fooled around with their instruments and just going to the rehearsal studio every week to jam. It was when in 1996, that a local recording engineer Leonard Soosay gave the band name Raspatul and Leonard was really surprised that we kept the band name till this very day.

7. Are you coming out with any new albums?

- Well I think I answered this question on the first one. We are releasing a collection of all our old songs all the way till 2004. The reason why we are doing this is because our singer Ayim passed away in a brutal motorcycle accident last year and Raspatul has been on a slow and confusing road since then. The CD release might be the last thing that Raspatul is going to come out with, but who knows for sure?
