SHORTER, SAFER!

The 2000 Idaho State Championship jet boat race was a small race this year, but it was a big success to Riggins.  We had seven boats sign up at the barbecue on Friday night in Riggins city park.  Only six boats started the race at Hammer Creek Saturday morning.  Boat number 04, Duke Tannahill, from Lewiston, had motor trouble and was out for the rest of the first leg.  Jake Wyatt, number 237, took an early lead and never looked back all weekend.  Jake won the race and was crowned the 2000 Idaho State Champion.
Other racers were number 11, Jim Ely from Grants Pass, Oregon, who was first in C Class;  Bob Jaap, number 72, from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada  (second in  C Class) and Dean Miles (212) who placed second in A Class.  Jeff Edwardsen in number 396.5 (second in Unlimited ) hit a rock on leg 3 and did not finish.    Chuck Thompson (280) blew a head gasket and did not start.
The sponsors this year were Pepsi, Idaho Power, Miller Beer, River Adventures Ltd., American Turbine, Ace Outfitters and Hays Motors.  In addition to $200 per leg for each racer the Overall and Class winner received the following:

Jack Wyatt                       Donnie Smith                       Jim Ely

Overall/ A Class Winner    Unlimited Class Winner       C Class Winner
The Idaho Cup                   $600 in leg money                 $600 leg money

S/S impeller, American        from Ace Outfitters               $300 Cash

$100 voucher                      Rex Marine
Rex Marine (above)             $300 Cash
$300 cash
Total: $2,600.00 cash and prizes
We have changed the Salmon River race course.  The runs are from White Bird to Lucile and back(24 miles one way).  This cuts out all the big water and makes the Salmon a safer race to run.  We hope that this will  bring more boats in 2001.
