ORPHANED AKITA PUPS
On March 17, 2005 a lovely Akita bitch with a short tail was found running with a group of feral cats on Long Island, NY. She was very pregnant and heroic efforts were made to get her into a good foster home before the puppies were born. On March 20, 2005 she was transported over 1000 miles to me in Savannah, GA. She was estimated to be 7.5 weeks pregnant at the time and Xrays showed 9 puppies. Puppies were born on April 1 & 2 and were all healthy. Three of the puppies are solid yellow of some shade suggesting a Labrador Retriever father. The other six puppies are some shade of fawn with black masks & white markings. Four of the nine puppies had short or bob tails and the other five have normal tails. There are five boys and four girls. They are fat and sassy and getting into more trouble everyday! Weights on April 29th ranged from 5 lbs to 7 lbs 8 oz. Their eyes are open and they are just starting to learn to play and "talk" to each other. And their tails are starting to curl over their back so they are starting to look like little Akitas. If you are interested in adopting one of these puppies, the adoptions are being handled by Akita Rescue of Western New York (ARWNY). So far 7 lucky puppies and 7 lucky families have been matched up. Only Gandalf & Taurnil are still looking for the right family to join! Pictures of the puppies, their names, and the names of their adopters are below:

Saira adopted by Beth Karpfs who is also taking Boromir! -- Female, dark brown with heavy sabling, black mask, white markings. She has a short tail and a fluffy coat. At 4 weeks weighed 6 lbs 3 oz. She is a sweet, cuddly puppy. She has increasingly become an attention seeker as well as a mischevious prank player on her siblings. She is definitely looking forward to getting to her new home and Beth you are going to have your hands full with this spunky girl. That said her sweet kisses and head on your leg will more than make up for any trouble she causes!! She is one of if not the most people oriented puppies in this litter. She is also my escape artist!!

Boromir adopted by Beth Karpfs who is also getting Saira. Beth, you are getting the two "twins" -- they are the only two I have trouble telling apart at times!! You are getting a handful with these two. Boromir is the shyer of the two but also the most assertive. -- male, brown with sabling, black mask, and white markings. He has a short tail, is very playful, and is one of the smaller puppies weighing 5 lbs 7 oz at 4 weeks. He is a becoming a bit more shy and likes to check things out before rushing into them. He is a fiesty boy though and loves to wrestle with his larger siblings!

Faramir adopted by Magdalena -- the smallest of the puppies he is also one of the cutest. He weighed 5 lbs even at 4 weeks. He is a golden brown with black mask and white markings. His tail is short and color wise he looks like a fluffy Boxer. Overall he is very Akita-ish in conformation. He is one of the shyer more reserved puppies but very affectionate and cuddly once he gets to know you! He is highly intelligent and sits back and observes all that is going on around him. He is going to be a true Akita in spirit if not in body and will be a great challenge because he is so smart. That said, Magdalena, once you earn his respect and love it will be yours forever and nothing will come between him & you! Faramir left me to go to his new home on May 26, 2005 -- I will miss him but he is going to be a very loved very spoiled boy!! Keep us posted Magdalena about his progress please!!

Taurnil (would you like to give me a loving forever home? I will repay you with kisses everyday!!) -- golden-yellow male with the cutest bob tail. He is short-coated, very "Lab" in appearance excepting the tail. He is adventerous and playful and very loving. He enjoys snuggles and wants to be held! He is the second smallest puppy weighing 5 lbs 2 oz at 4 weeks of age.

Eowyn -- adopted by Bob -- Platinum blonde female with a normal tail. She is very shy but also curious. She was the first one to figure out how to get out of the play area. She is very fluffy and will look a lot like a white Akita if her ears stand up! She is a smaller puppy weighing only 5 lbs and 6 oz at 4 weeks of age. Bob you are getting one smart puppy -- I swear she is an escape artist as she was the first one out of the outside puppy area as well! That said she just comes to you to get loving when she gets out. She is going to be a stunningly beautiful, petite girl!

Gandalf (needs a loving home) -- the most Akita looking of all the puppies he is a lovely "buckskin" color with black mask and white markings. He has the typical aloof, independent but affectionate Akita temperament. He is one of the largest puppies weighing 6 lbs 12 oz at 4 weeks. If you decide to adopt him -- you are getting my favorite puppy - he reminds me SO much of my male Akita Zen as a baby! He has that same confident air and that same mellow, sweet temperament. If he turns out to be as amazing of a dog as Zen is you are going to be getting a truly once-in-a-lifetime dog!

Arwen adopted by Ellen -- the largest puppy, she is very heavy boned and has a strong "mastiff" look to her. She is a silver-fawn color with a small black mask and white markings. She is assertive but very sweet. She weighed 7 lbs 8 oz at 4 weeks of age. Ellen you are getting one tough girl. She is definitely the boss of the litter and keeps the other puppies in line. She is a very good leader though and does not bully or push the smaller ones around. She is a very stocky girl and while she may not be much larger than the other puppies she is going to be a heavier dog. She is a lovely color and has a very expressive face.

Aragorn -- adopted by Pat Irving! -- Light yellow male he will be the most Lab looking of the three yellows. He is very mellow and lazy although when aggravated he can wrestle with the best of them. He is a larger puppy weighing 6 lbs 11 oz at 4 weeks of age. If you are looking for an easygoing, affectionate, playful companion Aragorn is the one for you! Pat -- Aragorn is a doll baby. I think you are going to have a lot of fun with him.

Raen adopted by Tracy -- an unusual looking puppy as she is brown but with a "chinchilla" looking pattern to the fur. She has a black mask and a tiny dab of white on the chest and rear toes. She is the most assertive of the puppies trying to boss even people around!! She is the second largest puppy weighing 6 lbs and 14 oz at 4 weeks of age. Tracy you are getting a very demanding puppy. She likes what she likes when she likes it and is very vocal if she doesn't get it! She is a sweetheart though and once she settles down (she is one of the more energetic pups) likes to be held. Her chinchilla pattern is settling into a distinct "saddle" marking.
