While I know it will be a non-profit organization dedicated to helping grandparents in the crucial first week of custody, just to set up a non-profit organization is a major doing.
The organization I am proposing will assist grandparents with necessities within the first 24 hours of custody and hopefully, within the first 2-3 hours. Things like formula, bottles, car seats, clothing, legal paperwork, etc.
While I am sure once I receive non-profit status, I can go to companies for donations, right now, I am in dire need of cold hard cash to set up the organization.
We will need an air conditioned storage facility for storing things like baby formula, baby food, bottles, etc. so they won't spoil. Initial set-up cost just for the storage is $70.00 plus $60.00 per month and that doesn't include the cost of monthly insurance.
There will be the need to buy heavy duty shelving, baskets, labeler, ledger, etc. I have not begun to price these things yet, but my husband knows of a company locally that buys and sells used store shelving.
There will be the monthly fee for a pager and cell phone and of course the cost of a domain name and website.
If you feel this is something you would like to contribute to, I am very much open about taking donations. However at this time until we become non-profit, I can give you a receipt, but it will NOT be a tax deduction.

I have recently submitted a book for children on living with their grandparents and pray it will be accepted by the publisher. In the meantime, I am writing another book for grandparents raising grandchildren and need YOUR help.

I am also open to taking donations of cash to get this off the ground, but until we are a non-profit, I cannot send you a receipt for taxes.
