Gaudry drops ball on Knights comments
Newcastle Young Liberal President David Williams today claimed
Bryce Gaudry has dropped the ball on his comments to Parliament
yesterday about the Matthew Johns affair. (Newcastle Herald,
1 June 2000)
"Instead of being a proactive member for Newcastle,
he waits a couple of weeks, assessed the popularity of the
cause and now sticks his footy boot in his mouth."
"Where was he talking about state funds for the re-development
of the International Sports Centre, which was noticeably absent
from the state budget?"
"Where was he talking about getting Olympic events for
Newcastle when they were going interstate?"
"He was sitting on the ALP interchange bench that is
Newcastle politics."
Whilst praising the efforts of Matthew Johns for Newcastle,
Mr Williams continued "Let's see Mr Gaudry put his money
where his mouth is and demand that the State Government come
good with some money to redevelop the ground and stop seeking
support in others misfortune."
"Let's not forget it was the Liberal State Government
under John Fahey that dug the Knights out of their last financial
dilemma with a grant of $1.6m - all that Labor has given is
Lip Service."
