| The Dark and Bloody Ground Episode 1: 16 Lost |

| A group consisting of wendigo, vampires and some well-dressed mages joined forces to resurrect the Illigoir. Their plan consisted of taking Detective Nick Devry as a sacrifice - and attempting to kill the gang. Nick and Steph were on a date when several wendigo attacked. Although it was Nick's first encounter with the supernatural, he was able to attempt to fight them off. Unfortunately, without a bladed weapon with which to decapitate them, the wendigo were able to hold off Steph long enough to abscond with Nick. Meanwhile, Leroy, and Saul, separately, were attacked by several vampires. Leroy, who was attacked by five veteran vamps was forced to escape without killing them. Saul was able to kill the two after him by prodigious use of white phosphorous rounds and a sniper rifle. Josh was attacked by three wendigo and, after being severly injured, transformed into his werewolf form and killed the wendigo. Then, feeling the call of the unsealing Hellmouth emanating from the doorway portal on the MTSU campus, werewolf/Josh headed toward campus. Astrid was busy studying the charts and books found by Steph, when she fought some wendigo and another well-dressed mage a few weeks earlier. Discovering that the planetary alignments were right for a breaking of the Hellmouth seal, Astrid attempted to call the rest of the group together - only to be frustrated by no answers from anyone. However, then she received a call from Elizabeth, the British woman that had helped them rescue Josh from another dimension recently. Elizabeth informed Astrid that the portal in the quad on campus was open and some beings had just come through and were headed toward her dorm. Astrid wasted no time getting out of the dorm and arranged to meet with Elizabeth. Eventually Steph, Leroy, and Saul meet up with Astrid and Elizabeth and, after arming themselves, went to the portal. Astrid was able to detect Josh's scent and the fact that he was in werewolf form even though it wasn't a full moon. Once Elizabeth was able to discern that the portal was open to the Old Stone Fort and the Hellmouth, Steph ran through, followed closely behind by the rest of the gang. At the Old Stone Fort, chaos reigned. Dozens of wendigo and vampires were acting as guards for five mages who were attempting to transfer the life essance of the Illigoir into the mallable body of Nick. Steph and Leroy had already waded into battle before the rest of the gang manged to process the scene. Astrid at once noticed werewolf/Josh attempting to reach the Hellmouth, which was covered with a mystical energy sheath flowing from all the mages toward Nick. She also saw Jim hiding behind a partial wall also apparently casting a spell of his own. Belatedly she noticed Sam was busy acting as bodyguard for Jim. Realizing that the most logical thing to do was to help Jim with whatever he was doing, Astrid and Elizabeth made their way toward him, while Saul attempted to whittle down the mages with his rifle. Elizabeth made her way to one of the empty mage spots Saul had opened and starting sabotaging the spell as best she could. Steph, only interested in rescuing Nick, was able, with help from Leroy and incidently, Josh, to continue hacking her way to his side. As things headed toward a climax, Sam was wounded and went down, leaving Jim seemingly unprotected. Fortunately, his magic circle had a shielding effect that lasted long enough for his spell to take affect . . .almost. Jim, desperate to stop the Illigoir from awakening, was gambling that his own body was inhuman enough to trap and thus kill the creature. As the battle of wills between the remaining mages and Jim, aided by Elizabeth and Astrid and eventually Steph, who had finally managed to reach Nick, came to a close, the creature's essence was pulled toward Jim, but right before he was able to capture it, the leader of the mages pulled out a gun and shot Jim! Realizing that the creature was still, very temporarily, trapped inside the circle, before the creature could reverse itself and flow back and take over Nick, Astrid stepped into the circle and captured the essence. Her half-demon body could not be restructured and the Illigoir was killed - but so was Astrid. Werewolf/Josh approached the body and apparently realized that Astrid was someone special, let out a long woeful howl and ran off into the night. A couple of days later Steph buried Jim - her mentor, and Astrid - her best friend. After the funeral Nick told her that he couldn't stay in Murfreesboro any longer. He suggested that Steph could come with him back to L.A. (saying that nothing supernatural ever happens there), but she told him that her place was here. |
