2004 Season I Archive

2002 SEASON I ARCHIVE
2005 SEASON I ARCHIVE

6/17/04 - Games 7, 8, 9, and 10 left us with a record of 1-3-0 during that span. It was quite a disappointing end to a very optimistic regular season. Our most recent defeat coming last night at the hands of the Crusaders by a score of 6-5. It was a controversial game, but none the less we came up short due to a lack of team efficiency in all departments. However, we have put this last game behind us and look forward to the play-offs which will begin this upcoming Wednesday. We do not yet know who our opponents will be, but we don't care. This season is ours, and we will hang with anyteam that they throw our way. Player Stats are up as well some of the standings. Check back for the gametime of our first play-off game.

5/23/04 - Game 6 brought about a team reunion. We were at full strength except for star defenseman Mike Riggi, who was plagued with the flu. We were downed by the G.I. Joes by a score of 8-4. It was not a total loss, as it was the hardest I have seen this team work all season. Stats have been updated, but there will be no Mike's 2 Cents for this game as he was not in attendance. Check back for more updates.

5/18/04 - Mike's 2 Cents from last game are now up, as are the assists from that game. Player stats are current and our next game is tomorrow night at 9:15pm

5/13/04 - 4th and 5th games of the season have been completed. Game 4 was a thrashing. We were beaten 10-2 by Nitro. Netting both goals for the Snipers was Paul Durning, but it was nowhere near enough to prevent the beating that we took.
Game 5 was quite a turn around on our part. We faced off against the Crusaders. We defeated them by a score of 8-3. We were very short-handed this time around. Paul Durning once again found himself between the pipes with a total of four players to back him up. That means no line changes. The combination of players we did have worked very well together as we have done in the past. Scoring for the Snipers was Brian Costello with 4 goals, Steve Bringuez with 2 and Mike Riggi with 2 as well. All the stats are up except for primary assists which I still have to record. Check back for more updates as well as Mike's 2 Cents.

4/28/04 - Had our 3rd game of the season. Fan attendance was about as low as a Devils Play-Off Game, but nevertheless a fire was burning in the hearts of the four players and a goalie, yes you heard me right, just four players and a goalie who took to the floor in a fight for their lives against 10 members of Monsters Inc. tonight. We came out victorious by a score of 4-1. Solid goaltending mixed with 4 players who worked so well to conserve energy and play smart hockey gave us the W. I'm about to pass out, so look for a full game recap in Mike's 2 Cents when it is posted. Stats from the game are up. Check'em out.

4/22/04 - Last night we had a "bye" which means no game this week. Should definately have one this upcoming Wednesday. Check back for the time. Also Mike's 2 Cents are up for our second game of the season, so check them out.

4/15/04 - Had our second game last night. For those of you who didn't attend, we are all very glad because we had our asses handed to us on fine china. The team that we played is definately going to be our biggest competition this season. The game started off pretty well and we fell behind 2-1 early, but then all hell broke loose. Organization problems on the part of out team mixed with the immense skill of the G.I. Joes led to our downfall. Defenseman Mike Riggi was ejected for engaging in a fight, Paul Durning was shaken up due to a stick to the face that left him with a swelled and possibly broken nose, and to top that all off, brother Joe Riggi forgot his friggin helmet at home so he only managed to bank about 3 minutes of playing time. Goaltending was solid on both ends and Danny kept us from being mercied. Scoring for the Snipers was Steve Bringuez assisted by Jason Brito. Stats are up and schedule updates will follow once we get out next gametime. Check back for more updates.

SNIPERS HOCKEY - Player Bios

2004 Snipers Player Bios

After many years in the spotlight as a top goalie at the Center Cirlce, Paul is coming to Extremes Inline Skating Center 40 pounds lighter. No he hasn't been in solitary confinement for the past year, Paul is coming back with less pads and less pressure. Paul for the first time in his Inline Roller hockey career will be playing player. Paul as a player is a good skater and has a good scoring touch. Likes to play a sneaky game and has a knack for being at the right place at the right time. Snipers will look to Paul to play a sound defensive game as well as score timely goals.

Player Comparison- Paul reminds me most of Devils Sergei Brylin. Paul does not have a booming shot or excellent skating ability but is solid in all aspects of the game. Not known to mix it up physically, but is tough.

Room for Improvment: Paul has to basically touch up on every aspect of the game due to him playing goalie for such a long period of time. Skating will be his biggest challenge this year.

Now this is the real bio:

Paul this year will be without a doubt the biggest scoring threat on the Snipers, maybe the entire league. Ok, now that we have all stopped laughing lets get serious. When Paul was playing goalie he was important to the team, but now that he has stripped himself of the pads and basically all the talent he has, the end is near for the legend we have all come to know and love. Paul has been studying and watching the way to win as a player by continuing his unhealthy obsession with the Mighty Ducks movies. In those cinema classics the Ducks always find a way to overcome the odds and come out victorious. The odds are against Paul this year, and chances are he will collapse during the first three minutes of the first period. With the Center Circle legend Chris the "Polak" being deported to the motherland, Paul will take over his role as team lacky and polish princess.

Joe recently has gotten back to playing hockey, but will need some time to get in game shape. Joe is a great two way player. Is very smart, and knows the game of hockey better than most players in the league. Joe has decent skating ability, good passing and a deadly accurate shot from up close. Can score the big goal in clutch time. Joe has been floating back and forth from offense to defense and needs to find out where his skills excel the most. On offense is very effective down low taking a beating in front of the net. On defense his weakness comes from infront of the net due to lack of size. Joe is responsible whereever he is on the rink and is a good instigator. Joe can get pushed off the puck from time to time and has trouble with the battles along the boards. Great faceoff man. He is a very feisty player and his never give up mentality is his best attribute.

Player Comparison-I compare Joe to Jere Lehtinen on the Stars. Joe is a great defensive player and always knows where to be on the rink. Can line up effectivley with most players in the league.

Room for Improvment: Joe needs to fight the inconsistency of his offensive game if he wants to keep playing forward. Must keep his head up more when in control of the puck. On defense experience will do him plenty this season.

Now this is the real bio:

The senior citizen of the Snipers, Old man river will continue to shame the Riggi name by ignoring his families wishes to finally retire. Joe, now in the 40th year of his career, still cannot let go so will now stain the game he loves. No not stain hypothetically, literally with his weak bladder. Joe has been working hard in the gym and has gained 3 pounds in the last 7 years. Want to know how good Joe is? Just ask him. Joe contains the most massive ego the sports world has ever seen and displays it quite often, so often that most people stopped listening after his 35th birthday. Joe will try and regain past glories of missing the net, making inaccurate passes and being whored around by most of the team. Go get em Joe, we are behind you.

Mike kept somewhat involved in hockey with Ice but has not held a stick for quite some time. Has been keeping in shape, but will need a few games to return to his old form. Mike is the most reliable defensmen the team has had for quite some time now. Displays immense intelligence and anticipation in his own end. Mike is at best a decent skater, but must get quicker on his feet if he wants to keep his job as number one defensmen. Mike is a excellent passer and shows amazing vision of the rink. Makes very accurate break out passes that the team has thrived on for many seasons. He has developed a mean streak and throws his weight around more than anybody on the team. His physicality is an asset to the team, although he can take dumb penalities to hurt the team once in a while. Has great hands and soft hands but lack of speed limits his puck handling. Will fight for anybody on the team. A good leader, but has trouble handling the pressure in big game situation.

Player Comparison-Mike is a lot like Chris Pronger with his smarts, offensive upside, physical ability and mean streak.

Room for Improvment: Mike needs to work on his skating ability and keeping his temper in check. Must also take a greater leadership role during key moments of a game.

Now this is the real bio:

Mike "Bobby Friggin Iron Man Orr" Riggi Mike is the indisputable clown of the team who can always can slap a smile across the face of his teammates with his witty jokes, and the opposing team by setting them up with perfect scoring chances in the final moments of big games. Mike has plenty of hockey in his heart to keep his drive for the game going forever, but due to having twelve toes, Mike is drastically slowed down by the special medically prescribed skates he must wear in order to skate in a remotely proper manner. If your having a hard time imagining such a thing, think of padded cinderblocks with wheels attached to them. The fact that his skating posture looks like he is trying to hold a ripened cherry between his butt cheeks doesnt held matters either. Mike starts just about every game in top notch condition, but with his over abundant love for imported beer and fried chicken, has a tendency to look like a morbidly obese man after eating a big mac about 5 minutes into play. Being the self proclaimed heir to the great defensemen Bobby Orr, Mike pays attention in great detail to Bobby's glory days on video, usually in the form of old re-runs from classic sports while on the couch eating a bucket of KFC popcorn chicken

Brian really hasn't been around the game of hockey for quite some time now. Might need a few games to get back in the swing of things. Brian is the pure offensive threat of the Snipers. For his entire career Brian has been known to carry teams on his back with his offensive abilities. Brian possesses a deadly slap shot and can skate well. Brian is also a great puck handler and can create plenty of room for his teammates with his slick moves. Not really known for his defensive game, but when motivated can excel in the defensive zone as well. Brian can usually wear himself down from overworking himself. Very underrated play maker due to lack of finishers to play with over the years.

Player Comparison- I compare Brian to Marian Hossa. Very shifty in the offensive zone and get unleash his amazing shot from anywhere.

Room for Improvment: Brian needs to assert himself physically in order to gain that edge hes been lacking over the years. Develope his defensive game more.

Now this is the real bio:

Brian, with his long delicious blonde hair is a very high maintenance player. He will refuse to play in a game unless he has water with just a pinch of urine sent from paris in a doggy bowl waiting for him in the locker room. Brian is a great offensive player, and yes we all know about his "down syndromeness" when it comes to defense but what about his real problem? Yes thats right, jock itch. Brian will continue to do his job on the rink, and maybe.. just maybe with God on our side, he will finally pass the puck. And back check? Oh God..im not going to push it.

Dave has been keeping in hockey shape in both Roller and Ice Hockey. He should be ready to go by puck drop opening game. Dave has great size and uses it sufficiently. Can work along the boards against the toughest of opponents with his great strength and stubbornness. Dave is a mediocre skater and has trouble keeping up with the smaller finesse players. Dave is a great man to have in the locker room and has been a leader for the team. Possesses a very heavy slap shot that is perfect for the point of the powerplay. Dave stands up for all his team mates and doesn't hesitate to fight for the smaller players on the team. Is an immovable object infront of the net, but does lack hockey smarts. Has trouble consistently finishing and may be counted on for more offense this season than he can supply. Has developed into a very good face off man.

Player Comparison-Dave is a lot like Chris Gratton. Can win the important Face Offs, get the important goal as well as intimidate the opposition with his size and strength.

Room for Improvment-Dave can improve on his skating and hockey smarts. Due to his lack of speed positioning is very important. Even though his slapshot is deadly, it doesn't hit the net as often as the team needs.

Now this is the real bio:

The best of hockey players are blessed with soft hands, a hard shot, speed, smarts, and an edge. David has none of these qualities. Dave instead was blessed with an appetite for food more suited for an elephant. Dave has a Roller Hockey record for being the only player to take off his skate and try to stab somebody. Being it's roller hockey and the skates have wheels, he was quickly punched in the face. The manbeast known as "Faz The Warrior" is not too bright in the world of hockey, but to his credit is the first to cough up the puck in his own zone. Dave is to hockey what Clay Aiken is to...hockey. Dave is a monster on the rink, the man does not know the meaning of the word fear. But he doesnt know the meaning of many words, like pass back to Mike on the point you greedy shit.

Jason has not missed a beat since his last days of Center Circle High Roller hockey. Keeping in shape playing ice hockey, Jason should pick up right where he left off being the teams leader. Jason is without a doubt the best allround player on the team. Has remarkable quickness and skating abilities. Jason has a mind for the game of hockey and proves it with his immense intelligence. Jason can play any position on the rink, is a great back checker and has incredible endurance. Plays both sides of the puck with a mean streak and is not scared to play physical when needed. Shows great leadership and very vocal.

Player Comparison-When you try and break down Jasons game to one thing its nearly impossible. I compare him to Peter Forsberg due to his overall attributes. Great defensively, is smart, can skate, shoot, pass, hit, lead, win.

Room for Improvment: Jason can always play through injuries but they tend to slow him down. With a past of medical trouble Jasons biggest concern this year is keeping healthy. Also keeping his emotions in check.

Now this is the real bio:

How do you make fun of Jason Brito? The man is the greatest player of our generation. He has the skills of a younger Gretzky, the looks of a young Chong, the heart of a lion, and the height of an oompa loompa. Dont let Jasons hard edge and mean spirited personality trick you. Under all of that he is a snuggily teddy bear who is just mad at the world for taking the feeling in his left testicle. Jason is an icon in the hockey world and quite possibly the greatest man to ever live. Hearing Jason's voice is like looking to the sky and seeing a bright brilliant light from Heaven, and God letting you know that you yourself are his most marval of creations.

From what I have heard Ryan has a great head for the game. He knows what to do being he is a roller hockey ref. Should fit nicely on the team.

SNIPERS HOCKEY - Mike's 2 Cents

Welcome to Mike's 2 Cents

Here you will find Mike's take on the game most recently completed.

In this edition of Mike's 2 Cents we will take a look at every Snipers overall performance this season.

Ryan Crelin{6}
Games Played-4
Goals-3
Assists-1
Pts-4
Ryan started the season out on the second line playing defense with Joe Riggi. When playing Ryan showed great offensive abilities averaging a point a game. He became a decent rushing defensemen but was caught out of position quite often. In some situations Ryan would ignore his duties as dman and focus solely on scoring. Due to other obligations Ryan could only manage to play 4 games. Overall, when Ryan showed up and helped on offense but hurt on defense.

Paul Durning{2}
Games Played-11
Goals-9
Assists-13
Pts-22
PIM-2
Paul played most of the season as a forward, but also filled in for Danny as goalie for two games. He happened to win both of those games and played outstanding. As a player Paul surprised most with his ability to score important goals, and do it often. In physical contests against larger teams Paul seemed out of place and got roughed up around the net. Did not show up as much on his own end then in the other teams. Tying for team lead in points, he averaged two a game. Paul did nothing flashy this year, he used his smarts and was at the right place at the right time. Also tying for second in assists, he developed into a terrific play maker. Great season offensively for Paul.

Steve Bringuez{21}
Games Played-11
Goals-18
Assists-4
Pts-22
PIM-2
Steve led the team in goals by far toping out at an impressive 18. He was the most consistent offensive threat on the team, and became a goal scoring machine. Playing in all of the games, Steve filled the role as a power forward displaying great speed, power, and stick handling. Although possessing nice hands, Steve would tend to get carried away and cough up the puck sometimes even in his own zone. Could keep up with some of the better talents in the league but lacked hockey smarts in the defensive zone. Steve had a rocket of a slap shot and could always be counted on for offense. He and Paul tied for most points on the team with 22. When it comes to scoring goals, awesome season for Steve.

Joe Riggi{12}
Games Played-11
Goals-2
Assists-9
Pts-11
Joe started out the season as Ryan's defensive partner on the second pairing. He quickly saw first pairing rink time and seemed uncomfortable with the extra responsibility. Even though Joe struggled often this season, he still averaged a point per game and was second on the team with assists. Joe made some key break out passes and played smart in his own zone. He was also very vocal on the bench and played with plenty of drive. Joe enjoyed rushing the play this year, but was caught out of position quite often. Although lacking an ideal size for a dman, he never avoided physical play and loved to block shots. Overall Joe had a decent year on defense, but has plenty of room to improve which he will.

Jason Brito{13}
Games Played-7
Goals-7
Assists-13
Pts-20
PIM-2
Jason played alongside Mike Riggi on the first defensive pairing. Jason showed great positioning in his own zone and was a key ingredient to the Snipers Penalty Kill and Power Play. Jason even though playing defense had an amazing 20 points in just 7 games. That is just below averaging 3 points a game. He played with an edge this year but kept his temper in check only getting penalized once. He gave away the puck more than usual and was caught out of position while trying to contribute too much on offense. Tried to put the weight of the team on his shoulders to often. Missed 4 games due to personal reasons. Jason continued to be creative tying for the team lead in assists. Jason was a leader on the bench and the rink and showed why he is the captain of the Snipers. Overall superb season by Jason once again.

Dave Fazendiero{9}
Games Played-8
Goals-1
Assists-4
Pts-5
PIM-2
Dave struggled greatly this year on offense. He started out the season playing well with Brian Costello but left the team due to personal reasons. When Dave came back Brian had found new chemistry with Steve, and Dave was left out of the mix. Although he couldn't get back into the rhythm offensively he battled great along the boards and became a top notch face/off man. Dave seemed lost in high tempo finesse games and still has problems in the defensive zone. Dave was an above average shot blocker. Although Dave had problems, he was never a liability on the rink and played with a ton of heart. Overall Dave didn't play up to wat is expected from him.

Mike Riggi{4}
Games Played-10
Goals-7
Assists-4
Pts-11
PIM-27
Mike played the entire season on the first defensive pair rotating with Joe and Jason. Mike displayed great intelligence in his own zone and was a solid rock on defense. Although known for his play making abilities, Mike had a disappointing season in that category with only 4 assists. Improved on his stamina, but had tough times against the faster players. Mike did pick up his scoring, reaching a career high in goals with 7. Mike rushed the play at the right times, and was important to the Snipers Special teams. Mike played a nice physical game, protected his players and led the team by far with 27 penalty minutes. He also provided leadership on the rink and calmness on the bench. Overall great all around season for Mike.

Brian Costello{5}
Games Played-11
Goals-10
Assists-8
Pts-18
Brian played the whole season on the first line as a forward. Usually first on the team in scoring, Brian this time around finished second to Steve and Paul but still reached double digits in goals also placing him second in that category. Brian from the beginning of the season up to mid point seemed like the mvp of the Snipers. He anchored the offense with his slick stick handling and scored goals non stop. This season he also added new dimensions to his game with some great passing and being the best back checker on offense. His defensive game emerged as well as his grit. Towards the end of the season with a returning Jason Brito, Brian took a back seat and disappeared. Although playing solid, he no longer dominated the games as he once did. Overall another great season from Brian, but in the beginning he was playing the best hockey of his career.

Overall this season for the Snipers was a rather predictable one. The teams they were supposed to beat, they did. The teams they were supposed to lose to, they did. It was another fun year, with hopefully another one to come. With some competition where we dont know the outcome of the game... before the puck is even dropped. For now, thats my 2 cents.
