History of the Legion The Thundering Legion was a Roman Legion composed almost entirely of Christians. Together these men did some wonderful things with the Lord's guidance. The name comes from a battle with some Celtic soldiers, in which the Legion was trapped in the mountains with out water, in a dry spell. The leader, who was the only non-Christian, sacrificed to the Roman gods, but nothing happened. In turn, the Legion asked him if they could pray for their safety, and water, and soon, a huge thunderstorm came, which allowed the Legion to collect water. However, the storm served another purpose, because the lightening frightened some of the Celts, who ran to the Romans to join their side. Well, the remaining Celts could see that they were now outnumbered, and that God was with these Romans, so they fled from the mountains, and were easily defeated with out much of a battle. This story soon gave these soldiers the nickname of the "Thundering Legion". |
