Elizabeth’s Exchange

Or, An American in İzmir

(a peek into the life of one exchange student living in Turkey)

This page, which is still under construction, contains portions of my journal, advice to people who think they might want to be exchange students, a page about me and a page about my friends that I've made here in Turkey. And, (of course) it contains lots of pictures. As it is, I’ve scanned pictures from some of my exchange and they are posted below, along with their descriptions. Enjoy, because this is all until I have time to put up more. -- Elizabeth/Liz/Eli

Here you should be seeing a picture that includes, from left to right: Megan (an exchanger from Michigan to Manisa), Me, Stuart (from Australia, living in İzmir), and Karina (from Mexico, also living in İzmir). This was taken at the district 2440 Orientation Camp in Akçay, Turkey. It was held over three days at a hotel.

(from left to right) Semra (from Germany, not an exchanger), Karina, Me and Stuart in the Aegean at Stuart’s house.

Madhavi, Me, Karina and Semra at the gooooooorgeous beach in Ilıca.

Here you see Karina, Stuart and Me at the beach in Akçay the second night of Orientation Camp. Beautiful sunset, isn’t it? Çok güzel.

This is a picture of Amanda, the other American (from Virgina), and myself at school at Halloween.

This picture is of Amanda and another girl and their tattoos. No comment.

This is of Amanda and myself next to a park on İzmir Bay. That was a beautiful day.

This is of all of the ACI Exchangers in the cafeteria in our lovely uniforms. From left to right: Michelle (Mexico), Karina (Mexico), Amanda (America), Me, and Madhavi (Canada).

Here is a beautiful sunset over the İzmir Bay. Don't I live in a gorgeous place?

This is another picture (taken by me, so I'm not in the picture) of the ACI exchangers goofing off.

This is some of my family at the airport the day my host sister, Aslı, left for Mount Isa, Australia.

Me on the beach in Ilıca on one of my last wonderful days in Çeşme.

This is anne and our adorable Dalmatian, Lena.

This is me in front of the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. I went to Athens over the Ramazan Bayram with Amanda.

This is me with Amanda at the end of our Greek Night on our last night in Athens. It was raining and we were having an incredible time.

This is Amanda and myself in front of the taverna that we went to on Greek Night.

This is a picture of anne and baba, my host parents, dressed up for a night out.

This is the group of exchangers (and an honorary exchanger) that was at my Thanksgiving party. We went here, to Arka Sokak (our cafe) afterward. The people, from left to right: Semra, Madhavi, Me, Megan, Karina, Renata, and Amanda.

This is Amanda and myself making chocolate chip cookies at my apartment. Madhavi, Amanda, and I had a craving for them, so we decided to make them. We made a huge mess, but it was worth it.

This is me, Madhavi and Amanda out on a Saturday night at the Ritz, our favorite club. Don't we just look bootylicious?

This is Burcu, Me, Michelle and Karina out at a club, Outside, on a Friday night.

I love this picture. It's of Semra and Amanda at Arka Sokak, and Amanda is trying to get Semra to have some of her (delicious) hot chocolate, and Semra just doesn't want any of it.

This is a group of exchangers and friends at a pre-Christmas party given by Burcu. From left to right: Marco, Karina, Me, Amanda, Burcu, Madhavi, Michelle, and Marco's host brother. I love this picture. We look like a Benetton ad or something.

This is Amanda, me and Madhavi at the same party.

This is a great picture of Madhavi, looking gorgeous as usual.

This Amanda and myself on Christmas morning, opening presents and eating Christmas cookies at Madhavi's house.

This is my room. Look! It's clean!!! It's also extremely small, but it's clean.

This is everyone I partied with on New Year's Eve at the Ritz in Alsancak. From left to right: John (American), Semra (German), Madhavi (Canadian), ? (German whose name I forget), Melissa (American), Amanda (American), Aaron (American), Me (duh), and Ashley (American).

I managed to put my hair up with a glowstick at one point, and someone was so fascinated by it that they made me get a picture.

This is John and me, dancing on New Year's at the Ritz.

This was my New Year's Eve outfit.
