Being Kind To The Environment
Being kind to the enviroment is important. Every day we throw out tonnes of waste  and harm the enviroment in many ways. Use these tips to help reduce waste and make our planet a better place to live in,

Get a group of friends together regularly and clean up a local area.
On your daily walk, take a bag with you and collect rubbish you see on the way.
Start a compost pile, and put all food scraps on it.
Recycle bottles/cans etc and encourage others to do so too.
If you do not have a recycling unit, ask your council for one.
Many people do not know a lot of storm water drains drain into the sea. Dont pour anything down it and     wash cars etc with eco-friendly products that wont harm the ocean.
Cut the plastic rings around cans before throwing them away. Many animals (both land and sea) can get  caught in these.
Plant trees and plants in your garden and encourage others to do so.
Organize a tree planting in an area near you.
Try and use less paper. Email instead of fax, use both sides of paper etc.
 Donate used items to charity.
Use public transport, car pool, walk or bike instead of driving.
 Keep your car tuned up.
If you dont want junk mail, put a sign on your letterbox and stop any publications that you dont want to be subscribed to.
Turn off appliances on standby. This will save you power in the long run.
Take shorter showers and turn off the tape while brushing your teeth etc.
Make sure you have no water leaks.
Wrap food in plastic reusable storage containers instead of throw away ones.
Wipe up spills with cloth towels rather then paper towels.
Use the half flush button on your toilet instead of the full flush button if you can.
Use energy efficient light bulbs. These bulbs usually last longer then normal light bulbs and are energy efficient.
Use cloth nappies instead of disposable ones on children, or if you cant do that, try at least one day a week to use cloth nappies.
Not only should you recycle but you should buy products that have been recycled.
Use CFC free products. Chlorofluorocarbons destroy the ozone layer, which protects us from harmful UV rays.
Turn off lights and appliances when you leave a room to save power.
Say No to Styrofoam. Styrofoam production causes damage to the ozone layer and has toxic by-products like PCBs, or covalent chlorine compounds.
 Pick up your animals droppings.
Make a place to put scrap paper, and use the scrap paper for drafts, places to scribble notes etc.
Shop carefully. Dont buy products that are individually wrapped or have excess wrapping on them. For example, when buying chips instead of buying multi packs, buy large single packs of chips and put servings into a plastic container that can be reused.
Say no to plastic bags. Either put more in your plastic bags to reduce the amount you use, or buy a re-useable bag and take it shopping with you. You can buy re-useable bags in a number of different styles and fabrics at your supermarket and other shops. Keep one with you when you go out shopping.
Reuse plastic bags. If you get them, use them for something else.
