On Sunday, April 30th, we drove about an
hour NW of Brussels to the town of Brugge, about 10 miles inland
from the North Sea cost. Brugge, as you can see, is a lovely old
town ringed with scenic canals, and is a more Flemish-flavored
part of Belgium than Brussels, which has more of a French feel.

Brugge (Brugges in French) is a
medieval town of about 140,000 people. Everything rotates around
the main square, or Markt, much like all of the European
cities and villages we visited. In most every case, these squares
are pedestrian zones, lined with shops, sidewalk cafes, and impressive
municipal buildings.
