| The Ram throwers have made a name for themselves over the years while in the WAC, and more recently in the Mountain West Conference. They are led by Coach Bedard who has earned the respect of his athletes and peers. Since 1988, the Rams' Throwers boast an Olympic finalist, a Junior World Champion, 2 NCAA Champions, 5 NCAA Runner up finishes, 32 All-American awards, 41 Conference Champions, multiple placers at US championships and Olympic Trials. Two former Rams earned a spot on the 2008 US Olympic Team. The throwing program is continually ranked among the top teams in the nation and was ranked #1 in 2004. Most recently, Bedard was named 2008 Mountain West Conference Women's Coach of the Year in the outdoor Track & Field season, coaching two throwers to conference titles, and 13 total top-five finishes. In 2005 Bedard was named the Midwest Region "Assistant Coach of the Year - Throwing Events." He also won the National Assistant Coach of the Year honor for women's throwing events in 2005. Liz Toman led Canada in the shot and discus during her last year with the Rams in 2001 throwing 54' and 185'. Drew Loftin placed 7th at USA's and 12th at 2004 Olympic trials in the hammer. Another former Ram, Brian Trainor placing 10th in the discus at Olympic trials in 2004. CSU graduate, Casey Malone represented the U.S. at the World Championships '03 and threw in the Olympic games in '04. Malone again made the US Olympic team in 2008 competing in Beijing. Loree Smith, one of the most decorated throwers in CSU history made the US Olympic team in the women's hammer and competed in the 2008 Olympic Games. BrianTrainor, Drew Loftin and Casey Malone continue their training at Colorado State with their sights set on making the World Champioship team in 2009. Recent graduate, Jason Schutz competed in the Olympic Trials and will continue to train with Bedard in an effort to make the World Championship team in 2009.
