Caught Howard's interview with backup quarterback Curt Warner this morning.

1. Learning the playbook. How much time does it take to learn the playbook? About two months. Got it back in the minicamps. It's one thing to study the playbook and become comfortable but you don't actually "learn" it until you play it on the field.

There's a lot of verbiage. It's tough to master. Very complex.

It's second nature with Trent Green.

Warner's learned many new offenses in his career. Is it tough? Basically, he just phases out the old and learn the new. Have to push the other things by the wayside. Key is to make the connection with the new terminology and equate with what you've done in the past.

2. Comfort with the new offense. Feels good about what he's doing. Not a lot of mistakes. He's comfortable with it.

3. High tempo of offense. Concentration has to be high by everyone on the team. High level of input and intensity by the front office. Key is that everybody can get the ball at anytime. It's good for the linemen in that it is quick hitting. They don't have to stay on their blocks so long. They can block quickly then the pass is gone. Results in a better mentality.

4. Progressions on pass plays. Are there primary targets on every pass play? Anybody can get the ball on any play. It's based on the coverage that the defense gives you and the initial reads made by the quarterback.

5. Isaac Bruce. On Saturday's game. Warner: it was good to see him in there and healthy. The key was getting the ball into his hands.

6. On being a backup quarterback in the NFL. The biggest part is the mental part. He's been a starter for a number of years. Last year he was the third stringer. This year he's the primary backup. It's tough not being the starter but he knows his responsibility and role to the team. He needs to be ready to go. Hopefully it wont be due to injury to Trent Green.

7. DV is confident in Warner as a backup. Warner feels all he needed was the opportunity to prove himself. He's confident in what he can do physically. He feels he's demonstrating his ability to lead this team.

8. On team chemistry and competition at various positions. Most of the guys are going to go out and do what they do best. He's going to go out and do what he can. It's up to the coaches. Don't always know where you fit in.

9. Special teams practice this morning. Quarterbacks wont be involved too much. Practice tonight.

10. Post interview comment by Howard. Who's to say Curt Warner couldn't do what Trent Green did last year in his first real year of NFL experience should something happen to Green?
