I took my son to Macomb for the under-the-lights Ram practice on Wednesday evening. From what I saw, the biggest surprise of the new season will be Robert Holcombe. My son and I walked to the opposite side of the field to hear the hitting. No one else was on this side but they let us walk over there. We were standing behind the players who were on the sidelines while the first team offense ran a number of plays against the defense. Holcombe was hitting the hole with his lead block so hard that the Rams players on the sidelines were laughing at the "pop" and "crack" of the noise and the way he was wiping out  the poor guy who had to take his block.

Holcombe played like a man possessed. I have read that Holcombe is in front of  Derrick Harris because  Harris did not train in St Louis this off-season. I don't  think that's the case--Holcombe just looks like a natural,  awesome fullback.

After the practice we got to go on the field to get autographs. Holcombe had a cut on his forehead that was bleeding. I looked like it came from his helmet pad rubbing his forehead with each crushing hit. He could not of been nicer when he signed my son's jersey. Up close, he looks like he has done nothing but lift weights in the off-season--he reminds me of Terrell Davis, but with bigger arms.  The guy looks like he should be in the WWF.

If you know a little about his college history and the way he never gave up and ran for big yardage every game even while his team went 0-11, you realize this guy is a fullback with tailback's  running ability when he clears the line.

I am not claiming to be an expert. These are just the observations of a Die-Hard Fan.

Ernie Conwell said the earliest he felt he could play was October. I also got to meet Timmmerman,  Spikes,  Germaine, Pace,  Farr, Fletcher, Nutten, and Collins.
