1. CHARLEY ARMEY ON THE RADIO

Armey has turned into a real posterboy all of a sudden.  You can't turn on the radio without hearing him interviewed.  He's sort of a comical spectacle at camp by the way.  He rides his bicycle around the practice field (and in case you haven't seen him, he's a very fat man).

I think Charlie has learned some Dick speak...

What's the most impressive thing you've seen in camp so far?

"The efficiency of the quarterbacks has impressed me the most.  Mike Martz has done a good job of teaching them the offense.  They get the ball off quickly and make very few mistakes..."

Are you comfortable going into the season with Greg Hill as your starting tailback if Marshall Faulk doesn't sign?

"I'm not concerned about Marshall Faulk.  I feel really good about the running backs we have here.  Robert Holcombe has looked sensational in this camp, and everyone knows what Greg Hill did for us last year.  Of course we hope to have Faulk soon, but I think we can be successful with what we have here now."

What about the camp positional battles?

MLB: "Right now if you had to give an edge, you'd give it to London Fletcher.  He's had a great camp, but all three are playing very well and could start in this league.  Linebacker appears to be a strength on this team right now."

C: "Don't count out Flannery.  Gruttadauria is having a very good camp, and Ryan Tucker is vastly improved, he's finally playing like we thought he would.  That's the reason we took him in the 4th round."

LG: "Right now it has to be Tom Nutten.  Cameron Spikes will make a strong push to start though.  He will probably be the starter sometime before the end of the season and we think he's going to be a sensational left guard.  He's every bit as good as we thought when we drafted him and much tougher."

"The offensive line overall has been very impressive and much improved."

P: "Rick Tuten has the edge simply because he's the veteran."

Will Dre Bly challenge Dexter McCleon for a starting spot?

"Well Dexter McCleon is having an outstanding camp.  We have high hopes for Dre Bly, but Dexter is going to start and we expect him to have a great year as he probably would have last year had he started all season.  I drafted Ty Law when I was in New England, and Dexter is a carbon copy of Ty Law.  With Dre Bly, we'll put 3 very good corners on the field and you have to in this league."

2. JEFF GORDON FROM MACOMB

"Head to head, the defense is definately still ahead of the offense right now."

"If you only saw Trent Green yesterday in practice, you would be worried.  But Mike Martz isn't concerned and feels he's on schedule."

"Joe Germaine is much more nimble than Kurt Warner.  I'd be worried about my footwork if I were Warner, because Martz puts a premium on that in this offense."

"Todd Lyght has been (the best athlete on the defensive side).  The coverage has been phenomenal out there.  First unit against first unit, the defense is way ahead."

3. A BALZAR NOTE

Balzer just reported that Jay Williams was injured in practice.  He had been moved inside and was starting in Farr's place at DT in the nickel package.  The doctors think he tore his medial collateral ligament (4 to 6 weeks).
